COMPUTER
It process data to create information
DATA – collection of unorganized facts, including words, numbers, pictures,
and sounds
Information - result of processed data that are organized with its meaning
and use
CHARACTERISTICS OF A COMPUTER
 speed – computers works so fast that it can process any task and provide the output in seconds. it can
process 3-4 million task per second.
 Accuracy – computers are capable to work consistently with almost 100% accuracy, errors may occur in
computer system only because of wrong human input.
 storage capacity – computer can store vast amount of data. It can also quickly retrieve data from
storage devices
 Diligence – computer never gets tired or lacks its concentration. It can work for hours without any
fault.
 Versatility – it has the ability to perform completely different kinds of works with the same accuracy
and efficiency at the same time
 power of remembering – it has the power to store any data as long as we like. It can retrieve /
recalled easily if needed even if its been years of storage.
 no IQ and no feeling – it cannot think or feel like humans. They only work according to instructions
given.
LIMITATIONS OF COMPUTERS
lacks common sense – it cannot make decision based on a simple situation.
No Learning Power – they cannot learn even if they already perform same task for
a long period of time.
Power Dependent – electric power is needed to operate and errors can occur in an
event of a breakdown of the system
Dependent to humans - Computer itself cannot function. It needs instructions to
perform task.
