Introduction to emergenetics

Editor's Notes

  • #2: The word Emergenetics was coined by putting two words together, emerge and genetics, that is you emerge from your genetics.
  • #3: In 1981, Roger Sperry won the Nobel Prize for understanding that there is a difference in the way the right and left hemispheres think.
  • #4: Now talk about the Thinking attributes…starting with Analytical.
  • #5: This is the Emergenetics template. If you use this metaphor, you can understand how people think and behave in any situation—except values and, to some extent power—they are measured best by other instruments. The following slides are examples of applying the Emergenetics template.
  • #6: This slide gives you the opportunity to tell the percentage of Analytical thinking in the group. It helps you define the Analytical attribute and the next slides will have some research in them because it appeals to the blue part of the brain. Read the Emergenetics book and add any research slides that you feel comfortable talking about.
  • #7: This slide gives you the opportunity to tell the percentage of Structural thinking in the group. It helps you define the Structural attribute. Refer to Agenda. Green likes rules and guidelines: We recommend that the rules are 1) no smoking, 2) change seats each time we take a break and 3) misery is optional.
  • #8: This slide gives you the opportunity to tell the percentage of Social or Relational thinking in the group. It helps you define the Social attribute. The next slide refers to the gut brain. Review material in the Emergenetics book on page 44.
  • #9: This slide gives you the opportunity to tell the percentage of Conceptual thinking in the group. It helps you define the Conceptual attribute. People who have a lot of yellow in their brain usually have the ability to vision the future. See the next slide
  • #11: Definitions of behaviors: Show the Expressiveness percentages of each third of your group.
  • #12: Define Assertiveness and show the percentages of your group.
  • #13: Define Flexibility and show the percentages of each third of your group.
  • #15: “If you have only a sliver of Green in your profile, you may not whine to your boss about being late. Instead…(see the next slide)
  • #16: See Certification Manual
  • #17: Next, look at the pie chart at the top of the profile which tells you how the thinking attributes relate to each other. This is determined by adding each percentile into a sum and then dividing each individual percentile by that sum to come up with a percentage. While Percentiles reflect how you think according to the population at large, the percentages reflect your thinking preference(s). Any number that is 23% or greater is what we call a thinking preference. A preference is defined as an attribute that you enjoy using, have a lot of energy when using, and use unconsciously. It does not measure IQ, ability or competency.
  • #18: Here’s what the percentiles look like—the top line shows where in the room Kimberly Jackson would stand who is in the 95th percentile of Analytical thinking. The bottom line shows where she would stand when lining up by Expressiveness because she is in the 32nd percentile.
  • #19: This slide illustrates energy expended by first-third, second-third and third-third.
  • #20: OPTIONAL Our research shows that opposites tend to attract. Trainer Note: If you choose to use these slides, you may find more information in the book Emergenetics: Tap Into the New Science of Success.
  • #21: OPTIONAL Thus, you have spouse #1 married to spouse #2.
  • #22: OPTIONAL This isn’t an absolute rule, however, as you can see with this married couple of 25 years. If you asked them today, they would tell you that they have never had a single argument in their marriage! But what do they have to concern themselves with?
  • #26: See Certification Manual
  • #28: Example of how a tri- or quadramodal thinks.
