This document is a dissertation submitted by Janet C. Van Heck in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy in Special Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The dissertation examines the relationship between the roles and responsibilities of co-teachers and co-teacher self-efficacy. A survey was administered to 320 co-teachers, including 160 general education teachers and 160 special education teachers, in a large urban school district. The survey measured the roles co-teachers report fulfilling and their self-efficacy. The results indicate that co-teachers reported performing fewer roles than they consider best practices.
