- 4. John Lennon’s early life John Lennon was born on the 9th of October 1940, in Liverpool,England. He was named after his grandfather John”Jack”Lennon. John lived most of his early years with his aunt and uncle as his mother could not care for him and his father emigrated to New Zealand.

John was shot with a 38 revolver four times in the back by Mark David Chapman at 10:50pm Monday 8 December 1980 in his apartment building in Manhattan,New York.He had just returned from Record Plant/Studios with his wife and John was pronounced dead on arrival at St.Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.The doctor said that nobody could have lived for more than about 10 minutes with such injuries.
