L1 ap what is globalisation
What does this show about
globalisation?
What is Globalisation?
• It describes the way in which places and people
are becoming ever more closely linked.
• This is good as wealth is spreading and cultures
are mixing more (benefit of different foods,
music, etc.)
• This is bad as it means people can be exploited,
the environment is being ignored and migration
is not good for everyone.
• The process by which people, their
cultures, money, goods and information
can be transferred between countries with
relatively few or no barriers.
• OR
• The connections between people and
environments across the world.
What is Globalisation?
• The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF)
definition of globalisation is: ‘the growing
economic interdependence of countries
worldwide through increasing volume and
variety of cross border transactions in
goods and services, freer international
capital flows, and more rapid and
widespread diffusion of technology.’

Transport and trade links with The
Americas…
British Empire – 18th
and 19th
Century
Controlled one quarter of the world
and it’s people…
Post War - Cooperation
New international organisations ie
UN…
