• Shift the focus of instructions from the teacher
to student.

Characteristics

• Teacher plays the role of a facilitator of learning

Laboratory method

concepts and applications are closely related to
natural environment.

• They can directly see what is happening.
• Students acquire skills in handling scientific
apparatus, reading scales, drawing diagrams etc.

Advantages
• Provide various kinds of learning experience
• Individual differences are taken into
consideration
• Students learn to explore on their own.
• Practical skills and proficiency get developed

teacher develop.
• Good habits are developed- independence,
honesty and truthfulness.
• Students get sense of achievement.
Disadvantages
• Limited applicability.
• Separate equipments and resources are needed.
• Huge funds are needed.
• Increased work load on teachers and students.
• Need well experienced teachers.
Guided discovery method
• Pupils are carefully directed down a particular
path to discover patterns.
• They are provided with cues an questions.
Steps
• Exploration: Teacher provide divergent
questions and asses the students.
• Invention: Student find meaning and structure
of ideas.
• Discovery: student apply what he learned in new
situations.
