Module 1   Computer Basics

Lesson 1   Introduction to Computers
           Identify the main parts of a computer
           Identify the steps for starting and shutting down a computer.
           Identify the different groups of keys on a keyboard.
           Perform different tasks by using a mouse.

Lesson 2   Common Computer Terminology
           Explain an operating system.
           Explain programs and data.
           Describe a network and the types of networks.
           Explain the terms Internet and Network.

Lesson 3   Computer Performance and Features
           Compare the features of different types of computers.
           Explain the role of memory.

Lesson 4   Computer Operating Systems
           Explain the common functions of an operating system.
           Identify the components of the Windows XP interface.
           Use the options available in the Start menu of Windows XP.
           Work with the Windows XP interface within programs.
           Manage files and folders in Windows Explorer.
           Perform basic file operations.


Module 2   Internet Basics

Lesson 1   The Internet
           Describe the uses of the Internet.
           Identify the requirements for an Internet connection.
           Identify the features of two types of Internet connections.

Lesson 2   The World Wide Web
           Describe the components of the Web.
Explain how Web addresses work.
           Explore Web sites by using a browser.
           Search information using a search engine.


Module 3   Communication methods on the Internet
Lesson 1   Explain how e-mail works.
           Create an email account
           Write and send e-mail messages.
           Manage e-mail messages.
Lesson 2   Explain how instant messaging works.
           Write and send instant messages.

Module 4   Introduction to Word Processor
           Describe some of its uses
           Start and Quit a program
           Identify main components of the user interface
           Save and open a document
           Enter and edit text
           Identify and use the formatting features
           Edit a ready made letter and learn to use indents
           Insert tables and photographs
           Use print preview and page setting for printing
           Create a greeting to practice features learnt


Module 5   Introduction to Spreadsheet Program
           Describe some of its uses
           Start and Quit a program
           Identify main components of the user interface
           Save and open a worksheet
           Work with cell, worksheet, workbook
           Enter and edit text
           Identify and use the formatting features
           Enter Currency Unit (Rs), Date
           Use functions to perform basic mathematical tasks
           Create data series, use auto-fill and enter day-date
           Use print preview and page setting for printing
           Create a Grade card to practice features learnt

           Identify measures that you can use to protect your privacy.
           Explain how online predators operate.
           Identify guidelines for protection from online predators.

Lesson 4   Keeping Your Computer Secure and Updated
