Types of Magnetic Circuit
Magnetic Circuit Prof. Suraj T. Jadhav Lecture 2-2
Series Magnetic circuit:
 It consist of 3 parts namely A,B & C
 Length of these parts l1, l2 & l3
 Area of cross section a1, a2 & a3
 Relative permeability µr1 µr2 & µr3
 The coil having N no. of turns and that coil wound on
one of the part and current I is flowing through it
 Due to current, MMF is produced and expressed by
MMF=N×I AT
 The MMF produces the flux Φ, which is same for all
three parts of magnetic circuit and the value of flux
across all three parts is same so the circuit is Series
magnetic circuit.
 S1,S2&S3 are three reluctances of three parts,
expressed by

Parallel Magnetic Circuit
 The circuit which consist of more than 1 path for
Flux is known as Parallel Magnetic circuit
 In this type of circuit reluctances are in parallel.
 The coil has N no. of turns placed on central limb
of the core and current I is flowing through the
coil.
 Due to this current, flux Ø is developed in the
central limb of the core.
 At A point in the circuit there will be two paths
for flux namely ABCA and ADCA.
 This type of flux division is similar to current
division in Parallel electrical circuits.
