This document discusses various methods for synthesizing nanoparticles, including top-down approaches like attrition/milling and bottom-up approaches. Bottom-up synthesis is divided into vapor phase methods like pyrolysis and inert gas condensation, and liquid phase methods like solvothermal reactions and sol-gel fabrication. Specific vapor phase techniques discussed in detail include spray pyrolysis and inert gas condensation. Liquid phase techniques discussed include solvothermal synthesis and sol-gel processing. Nanoparticles produced via these methods exhibit unique size-dependent properties useful in applications such as optics, electronics, catalysis, drug delivery, and sensors.
