The urinary system filters waste from the blood and removes it from the body as urine. It includes the kidneys, which filter blood and remove waste as urine, ureters that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder, the bladder that stores urine, and the urethra through which urine exits the body. The kidneys contain nephrons, the basic functional units that filter blood and regulate water and electrolyte balance by selectively reabsorbing useful substances and secreting waste products into urine.

- 4. Nephrons Basic functional unit of kidney 1.Bowman’s Capsule – receives blood 2.Glomerulus – filters the blood, and almost absorbs 15% Water
- 5. Nephrons Proximal Convoluted Tubules – absorbs all glucose, fatty acids and glycerols, most enzymes, elements, hormones and necessary salts. Distal Convoluted Tubules – delivers the urea that is collected along filtration go to the collecting duct
- 6. Nephrons Collecting Duct – receives the urea and delivers it into the ureter. Capillaries – this is where all reabsorbed nutrients will deliver back to circulatory system.
