For Philippine
schools, even for
private ones catering to
children of a well-to-do
families, the so-called
tablet-for-learning is still
futuristic. Given,
however, the
recognized impact of
technology in
education, the future
may be not too far
away.
MORMS School
Guinobatan, Albay
Books are still the
primary medium of
instruction in
schools.
But there are now
perceptions that
virtual literacy may
very well ease out
textual print literacy.
Tablet-based
Education
The disadvantages of
using books for learning
are debated upon.
The load of books and
workbooks for every
subject is back breaking
due to their weight and
size.
Today,
technology is
being viewed
as a savior.
In developing
countries, one book
for every student is
still a goal, not a
reality.
Publishing and
printing of books
for public schools
are too expensive
for the public purse.
Computer
games have
been adopted
in developed
countries as a
learning
technology
along with
other audio-
visual aids to
teaching and
learning.
Educational video
gaming has been
shown to
inculcate
competencies
that relate to
learning
concentration,
lasting memory
recall and higher
visual literacy.
DISADVANTAGES OF TABLETS
Lesson 18- Tablets for Textbooks in Scools
In De La Salle school, the future is
now. Administrators, teachers,
parents, and other stakeholders have
met to discuss the use of tablets as a
primary learning tool to replace the
textbook.
It was argued
that young
students carry
many heavy
books to school
which can be
physically
burdensome.
Information technology
product manufactures
has given the De La
Salle school support by
way of customized
tablet designs that are
conducive to higher
thinking, constructive
and participative
teaching and learning.
