- 1. 1 Lesson 2: Exploring the interface and creating a bike. In this lesson you will be introduced to 123D design interface and you learn how to: • Use the workspace navigation • Load from the 3D library • Move, rotate and snap objects. • Key vocabulary: Face: all flat surface of a geometric solid. Rotate: To turn around on an axis or center. Grid: A framework of crisscrossed or parallel bars; a grating or mesh. Snap: Connecting one surface to another. Interface: a shared space across which two seperate components of a computer system exchange information. Menu: a set of optins presented to the user of te computer application to help the user find information or do a function. Polygon mesh: a group of polygons which are connected by shared vertices. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Exploring the Design Inerface Welcome to 123D design. This is the icon of this program: The first page you see is the ‘Design Interface’, and from the following picture you can see:
- 2. 2 1. Desin menu: main menu for new page, insert, import, save and export your final design. 2. Undo and Redo bottons: If you make a mistake you can undo your last action to try again. 3. Modeling tools: diiferent tools will help you in designing, just use your mouse to touch each one and see what it does. 4. Question mark: for getting help. 5. View cube: which helps you navigate in 3D, or to see your design from all sides. 6. Navigation tools and Visibility controls: You can turn the grid on or off, as well as hide a variety of solids, meshes, and sketches. 7. Grid seting: where you can change the size of the grid. • Building a Bike: Ø On the right-side you will see a blue arrow this will open the content library for you. Look at the options and SELECT the bicycle section. (You must have internet connection). Ø Now start building the bike part by part, first with the frame menu choose a frame design you like, then drag the frame into the 3D workspace. Ø SELECT a bike fork that you like from the menu and DROP it into the 3D workspace. Ø Now it is time to connect the two parts together using the snap botton, You must choose the two surfaces or faces that will snap together. SELECT the face on the fork, then the face on the bike frame where you want the fork to connect to the bike frame. Ø Using same steps, now you can add other parts for your bike like seat, handle bar, pedals and wheels from the library and connect them together by the snap icon.
