SESSION BASICS
 A user session is begin when you connect to SAP via
the SAP GUI (the SAP graphical user interface) user
 interface.

 A session means that you are now connected to the
SAP system. You can open more than one session at a
 time.
SYSTEM ACCESS
 Accessing SAP

 You can access SAP system from any PC that has SAP
GUI (SAP's user interface, also called presentation
software by the folks at SAP AG) installed or Internet
 Explorer installed (in most cases).
THE CLIENT CONCEPT

 Self-contained business units within a SAP System are
 called clients.

 Most likely your organization will have multiple
 clients.
INITIAL SAP LOGON

 When you connect SAP, the initial screen you see in
 Logon screen.

 The Logon screen for different SAP components might
 look a little different.
INITIAL SAP LOGON SCREEN
CHANGING PASSWORD
 When you sign in the first time around, you are asked
 to change your password.
LOGGING OFF
 In order to terminate your SAP session you can:

 Select the System

 Logoff option from the main menu

 Click on the Windows "X" icon in the top-right corner of SAP
  window.

 Execute /nex command from the SAP command field.

 You will be prompted to confirm if you want to shutdown your
  session.
LOGON PAD
 Till few year back, your system administrator used to
create an icon on each desktop. The user would use
this icon to login into SAP application by double
 clicking on it.

 If a company runs multiple SAP systems, user's
desktop would get cluttered by SAP icons.
CONFIGURING THE LOGON PAD
 There are two ways of configuring the Logon Pad.
 You can manually enter all SAP systems. There are
button to add individual servers or group of systems,
 Another way is to copy the saplogon.ini file from
another PC to yours. All the settings are stored in this
file. Once the file is copied your PC will assume the
same settings as the source PC.
 You can find the file saplogon.ini in the directory:
 C:windows
LOW-SPEED CONNECTIONS

 SAP Logon Pad can support low-speed connections.
This is one of the most important features.

 If you are connected via slow method like dial-up, you
 can choose to skip graphics.
SESSION MANAGEMENT
 You can create up to six sessions by default.

 For example in one session you can run reports, while
in the other session you can do data entry.

 When you create a session, it is as if you have logged
  into the system again.
CREATING A NEW SESSION

 A new session could be created at any time in SAP.

 A new session could be created from nearly any screen.

 Data in the already open session is not lost.
CREATING A NEW SESSION USING
THE COMMAND FIELD
 A new session could be created by typing /O (O for
open) in the command field on the top-left side of
your SAP GUI window and then pressing Enter.
CREATING A NEW SESSION AND
STARTING A NEW TASK AT THE
SAME TIME
 Following two tasks could be combined together:

 Creating a new session
 Executing a desired transaction or task
ENDING A SESSION
 It is a good practice to end a session once you are done
  using it.
 Each session consumes resources that can slow down
  performance of other sessions.
OVERVIEW OF USERS
 A screen is available in SAP that lets you see what others
are working on in the system.

 The Users Overview screen available via transaction SM04
  lists:

 the client number they are logged in to,

 the number of sessions that they currently have open,

 and the transaction code that they are currently running
     (their first session only).
