Warm-up and Objective Discussion
Orally, one student A will read the first statement given on the handout. Then, a student with the
grant labeled with the letter B will be asked to read the opening speech given for them.
Following that, one student A will be asked to make an oral positive or negative statement using
the verb to be in the simple present tense according to with the handout delivered; after this, that
student will request another student A to do the same thing, until all the students A participate in
the task. Students B will do the same job with the handout labeled with the letter B. This task
makes take at least one minute for every pair of the student.
Instruct and Model R W L S
I am going to begin my classes asking the student if they know how to conjugate the verb to be
in the simple present. As they start answering this question, I will proceed to write on the board
all the information they give me by their participation.
After the oral participation of the student, I will write on the board some positive or negative
statements with the verb to be in the simple present tense using the personal pronouns (I, you,
he, she and it) followed of the variables of the verb to be: Example:
I am happy to me you.
You are a lovely person.
He is not in an excellent mood.
 Basic  Intermediate  Advanced
She is not a very easygoing person.
It is a fantastic opportunity for meeting people.
I will make sure to emphasize to the students how important it is to understand the use of the
verb to be in everyday expressions. I will encourage them to follow me in this oral practice.
I will read the first statement. Then, I will ask all the students to repeat the same statement, and
so on, until I finished reading all the report written on the board.
I am modeling examples with the verb to be with some positive and negative statements in the
simple present tense.
Guided Practice R W L S
Students work with their partners, students A and Students Be are going convert all of the
statements on their handout to questions with the verb to be.
Students should write the converted questions on a separate piece of paper to be used in the
Independent Practice activity below.
Independent Practice R W L S
In pairs of work, students complete the activity:
Students with the hand out labeled with the letter A will read the first question done in the
guided practice to the Students B.
Student B will answer the question with a positive or negative statement given in the handout.
Then, Student B is going to ask the first question done on the guided practice to the Student A
Assessment R W L S
Call on one or two pairs to model one of their questions/answer exchanges.
Students should speak in complete sentences to show their mastery of ask and answer with to be
in the simple present tense, using positive or negative statements.
