Knowledge has many definitions and is used widely in different contexts, from simple information to mastery of a field. Information is the basis for knowledge, but knowledge goes beyond to include creativity and innovation. While information is acquiring facts, knowledge involves intellectual processes and understanding. However, society is shifting from being knowledge-based to information-based as information technology has increased information transmission without necessarily adding to knowledge.
