Introduction
• Tracking dynamic objects such as animals, human
or vehicles is an important mission in the real world
Internet of Things (IoT) system.
• “Geo-location” tracking
oGatheringthe geographical location of movingobjects
oBy acquiring temporal geo-location information (geo-
data), the objects’ trails and behaviors can be visualized
and analyzed

oTo design a long-range WSN with geo-location tracking
capability,operatingin real-time manner

• GPS-less location tracking
oMerit: Localization method and light sensor can be
leveraged to reduce sensor node’s form factor, cost and
energy consumption.
oDemerit: Difficult to obtain accurate data.

oMerit: Provides high precision geo-location data of
dynamic objects. (Priority of thiswork)
oDemerit: High cost and energy consumption.

• Long-range	communication	capability	is	required	to	
aggregate	geo-location	data	in	real-time	manner	for	
long-distant	objects	tracking.

• Adopt star topology and single-hop communication
oSimpler topology to minimize energy consumption of
sensor node
oLong-range capability of LoRa eliminates the need for
multi-hop communication

useful data are retrieved from GPS module through
programmable reconfiguration (NMEA sentence: RMC)

• RSSI	degrades	when	the	number	of	Sensor	Nodes	
increased,	however,	in	RSSI	dynamic	range	of	LoRa
oRSSI	from	Sensor	Node	is	denoted	as	RSSI	N (N=	number	
of	Sensor	Node)

Conclusion
• The development of WSN for geo-location tracking
of mobile objects is explored
oFor geo-location tracking of mobile objects, GPS module
is used and reconfigured for additional useful data
oTo achieve long distance sensing capability, LoRa
wirelesstechnology isadopted
oThe RSSI of multiple sensor nodes is tolerable to LoRa
dynamic range
• The combination of GPS and LoRa has a high
potential for long-range geo-location tracking
system of multiple mobile objects
