Procedures
ROUTINE (5 minutes)
I will arrive to the classroom and greet the students, I will wait for them to sit
down and quiet down and I will say “Good afternoon. How are you today?” Then
I will ask one of the class representatives to take attendance.
WARM- UP (10 minutes)
After taking attendance, I will show the students a picture of a plane. I will tell
them “Nowadays we travel by plane. What do you think we will use in the
future?” I will write this example on the board: “We will have flying…” and have
them think of a way to complete the sentence. I will give them a piece of paper
and ask them to write their answers there. Then I will take a class survey to see
how many students completed the sentence in the same way. I will ask a student
to volunteer to collect the pieces of paper and another one to read the results
aloud so we can count the answers will write the results on the board.
PRESENT ATI ON (10 minutes)
Then I will say “Advances in technology change people’s everyday lives. How
would it be to come to school in a flying skate/car/bike (depending on their
answers in the warm-up) change what and how you do things every day?
After they give me some answers I will say: “Today we are going to read, listen
and practice a dialogue about means of transport in the future. Let’s see if some
of your predictions are included here”.
DEVELOP M ENT (PRACTI CE and PRODUCTI ON)
Activity 1  Listening (20 minutes)
I will say “Now take out your Student’s Book and open them at page 94. We are
going to listen and read along a dialogue”. I will play the recording and once it
has finished I will ask if they need me to play it one more time. Then I will ask
some questions to check their comprehension: What invention does Dad read
about? What is one problem with the flying suit now? What does Ellie say will
happen in the future? Then I will ask the rubric question: How will Ellie get to
school today?
Activity 2  Speaking (15 minutes)
I will ask students to practice the dialogue aloud in pairs, swap parts and repeat.
While they read, I will walk around the classroom listening for proper
pronunciation and appropriate intonation. If I notice mistakes, I will say the
words or sentences correctly and I will have students repeat after me.
Activity 3  Listen, match and complete sentences (15 minutes)
I will ask students to put their books away. We will continue working with
predictions about the future. I will give students four images and four sentences.
I will write four words on the board. They will listen to a recording about
technology and predictions about the future. While listening, they will have to
match a picture with a sentence and complete it with a word from the board.
They will have to glue everything in the folder. Since this is the first time they
will use it during the day, I will write the date on the board and I will write
“Listen, match and complete sentences”.
PICTURES
SENTENCES
1 We’ll use ______________ to talk to our friends.
2 We’ll use our ______________ to pay for things.
3 We’ll use a ______________ to attend school virtually.
4 We’ll use a ______________ to tell our cars where we want to go.
WORDS TO COMPLETE THE SENTENCES
computer - navigation system - smartphone -
tablet - video messaging
Students will listen to the recording twice and then we will check the answers
as a class on the board.
Students will have their 15 minute break and continue with the next activity
when they come back.
Activity 4  Making predictions (20 minutes)
I will ask three volunteers to read the example on the board aloud.
Do you think we’ll have cars 100 years from now?
Yes, we will. But cars
won’t have drivers! They’ll
use computers.
No, we won’t. We’ll have
spaceships.
Then I will ask students “What words are combined in the contraction they’ll?
What words are combined in the contraction won’t?” I will point at the examples
on the board to help them find the answer. If they can’t find it I will give it to them
by reading the sentences in the complete form.
Then students will make predictions and make sentences with the following
phrases that I will give them in a piece of paper. I will encourage them to use the
contracted forms of will. I will point out that the first phrase will go in the first
sentence saying what people will not do anymore. The second phrase will go in
the second sentence saying what people will do in the future.
1. write letters/send emails
2. buy things in shops/shop online
3. use telephones/use video chatting
4. attend school/use virtual classrooms
5 play with dolls/play with robots
I will give them a few minutes to do the activity in pairs. They will write the
sentences intheir folders. Once they finished we will check the answers orally as
a class.
CLOSURE (10 minutes)
To round up the class, I will ask students to pick two predictions we have talked
about, one they agree with, and one they disagree with. They will have to tell the
rest of the class their choice and support their answers. If they cannot think of
any at the moment I will ask them to bring them as homework for the following
class. I will ask them to put their chairs up on the tables and they will line up go
downstairs to say goodbye.
