THE COMPARISON
Concept of comparison
Is understood as the Act of comparing, which is the
analysis of two or more objects or situations in order
to find similarities or differences.
Thus, if we put to compare two computers, could
find differences in relation to their technical
characteristics, the size of their screens, processor
or its design.
The reason why a person compares one thing to
another is diverse and is going according to the need
at that moment.
There are different ways to compare, depending on
what are you focus could be: comparisons of
inequality, comparisons of superiority, comparisons of
equality, comparisons of inferiority
COMPARISONS OF INEQUALITY
Add –er to short adjectives
Example:
Peter is tall. Ramon is short.
peter is taller than Ramon.
Add “more” before long adjectives.
example:
Ana is beautiful. Maria is ugly.
Ana is more beautiful than Maria.
Comparisons of superiority
Add “est” to short adjectives.
example:
Andres is the tallest in my family.
Add “the most” to long adjectives.
Example:
Carina is the most beautiful girl in the
extremo a extremo TV show.

Comparisons Of Equality
As……as Examples:
Ramos is as handsome as

Add as before
and after the
adjectives.
Exercises
Write the comparison of equality for the sentences below. Use the
words in brackets ( ).
Equality As…as
1) John is 1 meter 80cms tall. Dave is 1 meter 80cms tall.
2) Seville has temperatures of 40ºC. Cordova has temperatures
of 40ºC.
3) The brown house is 100 years old. The green house is 100
years old..
4) The first exam was difficult. The second exam was difficult
too.
COMPARISONS OF INFERIORITY
Add less before wherever adjective.
Example:
Carla is less tall than chabela.
My cellphone is less fast than Ramon's.
Irregular adjectives
•good better the best
•Bad worse the worst
•Far farther the farthest
•Litter less the least
