LISTENER
 Good listening is one of the most essential skills to have in
today’s complex world.
 Families need good listening to face complicated stresses
together.
 Corporate employees need it to solve complex problems
quickly and stay competitive.
 Students need it to understand complex issues in their
fields.
 Good listening is an essential part of being good leader.
 You cannot be a good leader unless you are a good listener.
 You as a leader must be very aware of the feedback you
are receiving from the people around you.
 Good listener maintain eye contact with her
speaker.
 Good eye contact is essential for several reason
 First, most of us have learned to read lips, often
unconsciously , and the lip reading helps us to
understand verbal message.
 Second, many of the message are in non-verbal form
and by watching the eyes and face of a person we pick
up clues to understand the message better.
 Looking into the eyes may indicate close attention.
Finally, our eye contact with the speaker is our
feedback and confirmation we give to speaker that
we are listening.
 Certain body postures and movements are culturally
interpreted with specific meanings.
 Some body movements have negative meanings while some
others have position meanings. say for instance, the
crossing of arms and legs is perceived to mean a closing of
the mind and attention.
 The nodding of the head vertically is interpreted as
agreement or acceptance.
 A good listener gives all the position body language like
leaning forward with the upper body which communicates
attention.
 He nods his head and wears smile on his face to support b
the speaker.
 Good listener is the one who asks questions like,” is it
what you mean?” to clarify his some points.
 The listener sometimes paraphrases speaker’s speech
to confirm what he has heard.
 OPEN MIND :
 Good listener is open to speaker’s opinion.
 He doesn’t neglect listener’s idea just because it
challenges or contradicts his own beliefs.
 He listens to the speaker objectively without any
preconception.
 A good listener is empathetic towards the speaker.
 He understands the other person by trying to put him
in speaker’s position.
 He listens not for the sake of listening but for the
sake of understanding the speaker.
 ATTENTION :
 A good listener listens with attention and careful
concentration.
 He doesn’t do any distractions in while listening to the
speaker.
