This document summarizes a master's thesis that examined factors affecting English achievement among secondary students in Bangladesh. The thesis compared two regions - Narayanganj, an industrial area near the capital Dhaka, and Bhola, a coastal rural area where 75% of residents live. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations with students, teachers, principals, guardians, and education officers in 8 schools between the regions. The major findings showed students in Bhola performed weaker in English than Narayanganj.
