FINDING THE VOLUME OF
LEARNING TARGET:
a. determine the relationship of the volume
between a rectangular prism & a cylinder; a
cylinder & a cone, a cylinder & a sphere;
b. derive the formula for finding the volume
of solid figures; and
c. solve routine and non-routine problems
involving volume of solid figures.
 is the amount of space occupied
by a three-dimensional object as
measured by cubic units.
Anna and Elsa cleaned their swimming pool that
measures 12 m by 8 m by 9 m. How much water
can fill the pool if it is ¾ full?
Volume of a
Rectangular Prism
= Length x Width x
Height
V = L x W x H
= 12 m x 8 m x 9 m
V = 864 m3
Find the ¾ full of the
volume.
V = ¾ x 864 m3
V = 648 m3 The swimming pool can be
filled with 648 m3 of
water when it is ¾ full.
A cylindrical tank has a radius of 3 meters
and height of 4 meters. How many cubic
meters of water can the tank carry?
Volume of a
Cylinder
=
ꙥr2h
V = 3.14 x 32 x 4
= 3.14 x 9 x 4
V = 113.04 m3
The tank can carry 113.04
m3 of water.
Volume of a

V = 3 x 3 x 3
V = 27 cubic
