Mac queen method
of isotonic exercises
-NAVYASHREE Y S
INTRODUCTION:
• IISOTONIC MUSCLE ACTION: Isotonic activity is dynamic change
in the muscle length.
• It has two types of muscular actions namely;
• CONCENTRIC Muscle action : The muscles fibers shortens contract
during activityexercises .
• ECCENTRIC Muscle action : The muscles fibers elongates stretchs .
• Isotonic is the most common type of resistance training because of its ease of
Performance and low cost .
ISOTONIC EXERCISES
•ISO: Same /constant , TONE : Tension .
•The isotonic exercises produces the constant
amount of tension during muscular
activity to overcome a given resistance ,It
allows full range of motion owing to
changes in muscle length.
•e.g., walking ,running,hiking ,swimming etc
ISOMETRIC :
• Tension developed
, no movement
• e.g., pushing again
st a fixed object [a
nother person,
another body part
, or a wall]
• METHODS;
• BRIME , Multiple
angle isometrics
ISOTONIC :
• Concentric, Eccentric
• e.g., free
weights ,dumbbells ,
elastic tubing ,cuff- w
eights, pulleys
• METHODS:
• De-lorms
• Oxford
• Mac queen
ISOKINETIC:
• Concentric,
Eccentric
• e.g., using a
dynamometer
• METHODS:
• Biodex, Cybex

MAC QUEEN METHOD :
•In this technique continuous load is appied through
out the method/protocol of exercises without
any warmup set
•This method includes
•4sets /sessions with 100% of 10 RM.
MAC QUE
EN
• 10 Lifts with 10 RM
• 10 Lifts with 10 RM
• 10 Lifts with 10 RM
• 10 Lifts with 10RM
• Total 40 Lifts with 100% of 10RM
, 3 times weekly .
• Progress to RM ,every 1-2 weeks
RM / REPETITION
MAXIMUM
•Repetition maximum is defined as
the greatest amount of weight a
muscle can lift throughout
the available ROM for a specific no.of
times
•RM for a muscle is Max weight a muscle
can lift with full ROM for 10times .
REST INTERVALS
•The Adequate amount of rest interval must be
provided according to the intensity of exercises
•It prevents the muscle to undergo fatique point
•Moderate intensity ; 2-3 min rest b/w sets .
•High intensity ; 4-5 min rest b/w sets.
McQueen Protocol for Isometric Exercises
McQueen Protocol for Isometric Exercises
• Frequent examination of the patient is
necessary to ensure that the exercise mode/
method does not lead to any pain / increase in
PRECAUTIONS :
• Cardiovascular problems must be controlled during
exercises.
• Avoid reaching fatigue point, Adequate rest interval
should be given.
• Osteoporosis ; to avoid pathological conditions.
• Muscles soreness due to lack of blood /O2 supply.
Benefits
• It increases the
muscle strength , improves
muscle tone and endurance .
• It improves joint stability , flexibility .
• Increases bone density
• Improves cardiovascular system , and
effeciency of circulatory system.
• Helps to regulate cholestrol , blood sugar
levels .
