TODAY’S TOPICS
Impact Reporting- What it is and why it is important
SMART Goals
Segmenting Data
Systems to Track and Evaluate Data
Sharing Impact with Stakeholders
“Having a
strong effect
on someone
or
something”
Why is reporting impact
so important?
Measure of Success: Creating Tools and Process to Report Impact
How to know what to track?
Donor Focused
Internal Evaluations for Daily Operations
Strategic Plan Driven for Capacity Building
Community Engagement
SERVICE VS. ENGAGEMENT VS. IMPACT
Service – Delivery of programs
or goods (tangible or non-
tangible).
Engagement - Interaction or
introduction of the
organization’s mission
Impact – The extended effect of
programs delivered
SMART Goals
Specific
Measurable
Action-driven
Realistic/Relevant
Timely
Quantitative Data is a
collection of hard facts that
are numerical, can be
counted/ordered, and help
depicts the ‘big’ picture.
Examples
• Client services rendered (units)
• Attendance records in programs
• # of volunteers
• # of volunteer hours contributed
• # of miles driven
• # of meals served
• # of nights of lodging provided
Qualitative Data provides
details/descriptions/depth
Is NOT numerical
Data cannot be
counted/ordered
Helps you see the “HUMAN”
component
Examples
• Client experiences
• Donor experiences/expectations
• Volunteer incentives
• Impressions, opinions, views of
stakeholders
• Increase in Knowledge
• Change in Behavior
• Achievement of Personal Goals

CHARITY WATER
How do we tackle the water crisis?
“We work with [how many?] local experts
and community members to find the best
sustainable solution in each place where
we work, whether it’s a well, a piped
system, a BioSand Filter, or a system for
harvesting rainwater.
With every water point we fund, our
[description?] partners coordinate
sanitation and hygiene training and
establish a local Water Committee to help
keep water flowing for years to come.”
SAMPLE CONTEXT
CHARITY WATER
Health
“Diseases from dirty water kill
more people every year than
all forms of violence,
including war.
43% of those deaths are
children under five years old.
Access to clean water and
basic sanitation can save
around 16,000
lives every week.”
Measure of Success: Creating Tools and Process to Report Impact
Donor-Specific
Messaging
Past Impact = Assure
Present Impact = Engage
Future Impact = Inspire

SAVE THEM ALL® GRANT
APPLICATION
Proposed projects MUST
demonstrate a direct
impact on saving lives
and/or leading to a
reduction in shelter deaths.
Examples Of Impact From Grants
Spay/Neuter - $500 funds 5 spay surgeries. In our experience, a street dog has 2 litters of approximately 6
puppies 2x a year, which is 96 puppies over her lifetime. Thanks to this grant, 480 puppies will not be facing life
on the street (and this number does not include the offspring of those puppies!).
Filters for Families, proposes to improve the health of 500 Liberian families by installing a
compact/portable water filter in each home. For only $50/filter, we can provide more than 250
gallons daily/ 912,500 gallons of safe drinking water per family over the 10-year lifespan of the
filter.
Last year, elementary students in the Opening Doors Program achieved an average increase of 10.53 points
in reading skills and 8.35 points in math skills allowing them to graduate to the next grade level.
