On February 15, 2013, a meteor exploded over the Ural Mountains in Russia, injuring over 1,000 people due to shockwaves that shattered windows. The meteoroid was approximately 17 meters in size and traveled at over 64,000 km/h, with the explosion equivalent to a 490 kiloton bomb. Meteorite fragments scattered in various regions of Russia and Kazakhstan, with one large meteorite creating a hole in an ice-covered lake near Chelyabinsk.
