There are two main ways to organize
  your material when developping a
                contrast paragraph.
 Inthe first method, the contrasts are made
one at a time, or point by point. Thus, the
two characteristics are first contrasted for
one fact then for another one and so on.
 In the second method, the writer can also
describe completely one characteristic in the
first part of the paragraph and the other in a
second part. This may result in a diffeent-
  looking but equally acceptable paragraph
 We were told that most paragraphs begin
with a topic sentence. However, since then
we have seen two examples of something we
  will encounter in English—two beginning
sentences which carry the main idea of the
  paragraph e.g
 Why is it that American working women
  complain about job discrimination? Statistics
suggest that there is basis for their
  grievances
 We can notice that the first sentence
introduces the idea in a general way,
wondering why women complain. The second
sentence goes further and notes that there
are reasons, and that these reasons are
 verifiable through statistics. The paragraph
then goes on to present these statistics to
 the reader.
 Atthis point there is no reason why we
should try to write paragraphs which begin
 with these “double topic sentence”
Nevertheless we must learn to be aware
about them while we are reading; otherwise,
we may miss the point which the author is
 trying to make
