What mobile technology brings to you Overview of MX and MX Live MX in detail MX Live in detail Review of Key Benefits Open Question and Answer Session Overview
Handheld computers Ultra portable, ruggedized Multiple function devices (GPS, Cell Phone) Smart Phones 2 Types of Connection Wireless Intermittent connection (wired and wireless) What is Mobile Technology?
Symbol MC70 Provided by Brenda Mikesell Barcoding, Inc.
No need to run back & forth to the computer terminal Access to work lists at the work site More consistent and accurate work orders Better inventory control Quicker physical counts and cycle counts
Brings X3 to the technician, cutting maintenance technician travel time By saving a 4 minute round trip and 2 minutes at a terminal on 10 jobs a day… We save 5 hours per week, per technician With 8 technicians, that saves 40 hours per week It’s like an extra technician who works for free!
MX is intermittent – batch transfers MX Live is real-time wireless Both offer advantages in productivity Both utilize bar coding to speed data entry and reduce data errors Each offers other advantages
Device Type Modes of Connection MX can be used in two ways, a true full batch system, or an occasionally connected client. We will see the difference between both a little later in the slides. System Overview Here we will quickly go thru the system’s screen giving you an idea of what MX is capable of today. Work Order process Inventory Management Batch Uploads - Reconnecting MX Agenda
Since this is a .NET application, all devices running on Windows Mobile 2003 SE or newer will work just fine. Windows Mobile 2003 SE Windows Mobile 5.0 Windows Mobile 6.0
True Batch Mode For remote locations where no wireless connection is available. Typically the user would load the work orders on the PPC, then go out on the field, the data won’t be synchronized with X3 until he comes back and cradles the PPC. Occasionally connected Up-to-date data as the technician services the assets. The data is updated whenever the PPC has access to the internet, whether it’s wirelessly or when the user comes back and cradles the PPC just like in the True Batch mode Common benefits Single data entry, enter it in MX and X3 will automatically update. You will no longer need to print each work order, handwrite what’s been accomplished on the printed copy and then reenter the data at an X3 computer later. Better Data Quality in X3 as the information can be read with a barcode scanner. Two Modes of Connection
Initial Device Setup How to Data Download What should be done Before Performing a Work Order What should be done After Performing a Work Order MX handles Unscheduled Work Inventory Section Data Upload Operation Walk-through
This is a one time operation, it’s needed to UL & DL the Work orders assigned to the technician using the PPC A quick note so you know the application is password secured and the same X3 user credentials are used to access the device. We use a mobile version of SQL Server to store data on the device and the database file is password protected ensuring a secure data environment.
Select a Period of Time MX Defaults to the last week but this is easily adjusted to suit the users needs Preview how many work orders are available Download the Work Orders to your device You are ready to start your work and enter data when each job is completed
Clicking on the Work Orders Menu brings you to this filter screen. The Technician can scan an asset’s barcode and see if this particular asset has Work Orders associated with it. They can also chose to see the entire list without filtering it by Asset ID.
A Bar Coding sheet can be used to enter data. Having at hand a bar coded representation of the data you are bound to key in often is a good way to speed up data entry. Bar Coding Sheet Tip
A list is then displayed. Selecting an item in the list and selecting it’s details will provide the technician with all the information needed to complete the work.
On this tabbed view, Work order details are presented on the first page, the full description of the work on the second, and user definable fields are listed on the third page. Before Performing a Work Order – Part III
Once the proposed work is completed, the technician selects the Close button, enters the date and an optional comment, checks the closed box and selects Save to close the work order.
Any time a technician responds to a call or handles unscheduled work, they can add a new work order for it. They add this work by clicking on Add New at the list screen.
A tabbed screen similar to the Work Order Screen is brought up but with editable fields allowing you to report the problem. You can also close the unscheduled work order just as you’d do with regular Work Orders.
Issuing Parts Returning Parts Adjusting Inventory Adding Part The Transactions List
Parts can be issued, returned or have it’s inventory count adjusted through that screen Charges can be against Work Orders or Assets
Parts can be added through the Add Part interface. Enter a Part number, a quick description, where the part is located, the initial on hand count and hit save.
All the transactions are recorded to the handheld device You can see information on each transaction, including whether it has been uploaded. You can also access the detail of the transaction would it need to be edited or just consulted
In an occasionally connected scenario the Data Upload will occur automatically when network availability is detected In Full Batch Mode Select the appropriate Data upload menu option and your data will be uploaded to X3, saving data entry time and reducing errors.
No need to buy wireless infrastructure Of course if it’s already in place at your location you’ll get the advantages of the occasionally connected scenario No danger of signal interference Avoid issues with corporate IT wireless security policy Continued use of handhelds in power outages

By saving a 4 minute round trip and 2 minutes at a terminal on 10 jobs a day… 12 technicians = 60 hours per week saved If we are paying $20/hour for technicians… $20/hr + 55% fringe = $31/hour cost a savings of $1860 per week, or… And that doesn’t include any of the gains from accuracy or parts personnel time… $$$ a savings of $96,720 a year
$96,720 savings per year (per 12 technicians, etc.) Net Profit = Sales Revenue - Costs Average Profit Margin around 12.47% (Reuters 5 year S&P 500 average *) this has the same impact as $775,621 of additional revenue… * http://www.investor.reuters.com/learn.aspx?ticker=TLM.N&target=%2fstocks%2ffinancialinfo%2fratios%2fprofitmargin&page=learn
