Community MOOCs – Back to
Basics, Back to the Future
John Traxler
The Principles
Pedagogic approach is derived from
connectivism, curation and heutagogy,
Pedagogic approach aims to encourage
active learning, content creation,
community building, critical participation,
digital literacy and lifelong learning.
The technical approach is to exploit
a flexible combination of
universally available, highly familiar, mobile-accessible
‘free’ and ‘open’ platforms
This approach combines
the technical and pedagogic scalability of the MOOC with
learner empowerment and agency,
and cultural flexibility and sensitivity within
the relevant constraints of infrastructure, access and connectivity.
