• Shopping is largely a function of desire over need
• The majority of shops are selling an idea or a lifestyle
• To lure customers to consider purchases that are not of
  need; a store should consider
  • Appropriate and attractive lighting and space to move about a
    store
  • Entice target customers at entrance with in season items known to
    sell well
  • Sufficient inventory to browse-crowded racks and shelves
    discourage shoppers
  • Organize by some method-either function or color
  • Maintain organization throughout the day
  • Security is important-don’t let it overshadow products (example-
    Neiman Marcus entrance were coats chained to racks)
  • Place staff near the front of the store, make eye contact with
    customers and ask if they need assistance
