Assignment 2

Observation Lab
The shop I had visited
Entry
• It was early in the morning..
• The Door was closed and there were only few
customers in the shop. I didn’t feel anything
different having a closed door for the shop.
• The sign indicators and customer display
boards were poorly demonstrated in the shop.
Someone had to wander around or to seek
the help of a sales assistant to find out a
  commodity.
• It was a clumsy store
• The store did not pay
• Much attention in
  choosing a proper color
  Scheme that attract
  customers.
Internal environment
• The stored had used vitrified tiles that gave a
clean look to the shop. However, the floor area
where vegetables were kept looks so dirty that it
requires maintenance. Since I was there in the
morning the shop remain silent. There were
sufficient lighting so the shop look very bright
  and it was cold inside.
• The store was crowded with merchandise and
goods were not properly arranged. The cash
register was on the other end of the shop.
Personnel
• The sales assistants and cashier were very
friendly and pleasing. The sales assistants
treatments to different customers, of course
are different. Those who come in expensive
cars always get special treatment. Most of the
employees were young except the security
personnel who look in his 50’s. Sales people
wear uniform. Sales people, to some extent,
  match the store image.
Products
• The first thing I look for
  were bananas. There
  were no central display
  table with featured
  products. The item that
  were labeled as for sale
  were Maggie. There
  were no free samples
  on demonstration
Products
• The most expensive product was an Induction
cooker and the least expensive was
  chocolates.
Customers
• Customers come with their family. There were
three to four such groups in the shop in the
  morning.
• They were young couples - in their 30’s
• They tend to walk in different directions like
towards vegetable section – provisions -
  beverages etc.
• Customers are permitted to inspect products – no
restriction except that they are not permitted to
  uncover the rapper.
• Almost all those who visit purchase some goods
Other Observations
• Storing could be more scientific and
  systematic
• More display boards could have been
  demonstrated
• To promote customer loyalty, they offer
special discounts to those who subscribe to
  reliance membership card (free card)
• Sales personnel assistance is very less during
  busy hours.
