RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Morning Glory – Oasis
80s/90s theme
First Idea – 25th anniversary of the album ‘(What’s The
Story) Morning Glory?’, pictures of things 25 e.g number
25 bus, 25mph speed limit, 25th date on calendar, 25
past on a clock, 25 number door etc + various shots of
people close up lip syncing( combine multiple ideas
together?)
Second Idea – someone waking up, start off sluggish and
depressed(don’t want to leave bed), and then throughout
changes to being happy and loving life e.g doing things
that makes them happy
Third Idea – narrative/storyline, ended drug
addiction(not explicitly showing this but implying it),
exploring themselves again and learning to love
MORNING GLORY - OASIS
VIDEO The music video is set in a council estate flat with a group of
young adults all crammed into one room, and throughout the
video it shows a variety of people banging on the door with
the camera technique of a fisheye lense giving the video a
unique and diverse look. This implies that they are being too
loud, and through the expressions and lack of awareness of
the people at their door complaining they are careless to what
people think.
The camera shot through the letterbox that is like a POV shot
shows the perspective of the people at the door peering in to
the flat to see what they are doing as they are not answering
the door; by using a POV camera shot it makes the audience
feel like they are there looking through.
I think the target audience of the video is 16-24 year olds as
in the 1990s the culture was to move out and have the
freedom of a teenager with your mates, and as music was big
and diverse in that decade most young people adored
different genres of music and wanted to play their own music
in their own flat with their mates.
The budget of the video would be low as it is only in two
settings with minimal props, however does feature a big
group of people throughout the video.
HOW SOON IS NOW – THE
SMITHS VIDEOThe video throughout switches from videos of The Smiths
performing live showing pure emotion, especially the
lead singer Morrisey, and videos of power plants spewing
pollution, which shows the reality of what was happening
at the time with live performances being an escape from
the real world problems. The video also uses different
effects as seen in the bottom 2 screenshots, which is the
only use of colour throughout the whole video and the
only use of colour is used when the band is performing.
This suggests to the audience that the bright and happy
times are in music, and people use it as an escape.
The target audience is 16-24 as in the 1980/90s music
was a bit part and like I mentioned it is an escapism for
most young people and The Smiths were part of the
‘teenage culture’ in the 80s/90s.
WATERFALL – THE STONE
ROSES VIDEOThe video has dividers throughout the video, which is
a typical 80s/90s theme, and they also used colour
filters in the bottom screenshot when performing a
panning shot of fans sat outside one of The Stone
Roses concert, which again implies that colour shows
the happiness of people; the colour filters also look
like they were inspired by The Jams’ album cover The
Gift, which could suggest it was a typical theme
throughout the late 1980s. The entirety for the music
video is a live performance of the band in what seems
to be an intimate to venue to limited people, and the
crowd seem to be a young audience, therefore the
target audience is 16-24 year olds.
The budget for this video is minimal as it is just a
recording of a live performance with the same editing
throughout.
I like the idea of the black dividers and that colour
filters over a monochrome shot as it gives it a unique
look in the 21st century.
THE DRUGS DON’T WORK – THE
VERVE VIDEOThe opening shot as seen in the bottom left photo is the
band members walking in a slow motion shot cut out
onto a black background with other shots cut out as
well, which is an idea I really like and might try and add
to my music video. Throughout the video, multiple
templates are used like the one in the top right which
was a common convention used in the 1990s so I could
also implement a template like this in my video since
the look I am going for is in the 80s/90s.
The common use of having the lead singer in the
background and then something e.g a guitar in the
foreground but blurry is commonly used throughout the
music video, which I think gives the video a bit of
character instead of the singer just lip syncing.
I think the video would have had a decent budget as
various locations are used and some effects/editing
techniques are used; various black and white shots
which is a key convention of this time.
THIS IS HOW IT FEELS – INSPIRAL
CARPET VIDEOAt the start of the video, as seen in the bottom left, the
background changes colour every second, which shows
that the budget for the video was quite high as this was
in the 1990s and was fairly advanced for its time.
The video has a dark tone to it which goes well with the
song as it is about depression and loneliness. With the
video being set on the Moors, which is barren and
empty, reflecting his feelings.
The target audience would be 16-24 year olds as
feeling lonely is an emotion some people in that age
gap feel on a daily basis, so therefore they could
resonate with this song.
Once again, the use of black and white and coloured
filters are used throughout, which seem to be a key
feature of a music video of this era.
POTENTIAL SONGS
Morning Glory – Oasis
This is how it feels – Inspiral Carpets
Insomnia – Faithless
Step on – Happy Mondays
This charming man – The Smiths
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
•Slow motion
•Switching from black and white to colour – colour =
happy
•Several locations
•Possible lip syncing?
•Aesthetic video
•Different camera lenses e.g fisheye, macro etc
CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
•Setting – easily accessible like a park, alley etc. , and
places that create a pleasing ambiance.
•Mise-en-scene - indie look/retro style(80s/90s), dark
and bright lighting/setting for different parts of the
song.
•Focus on the main artist – possible extras e.g other
members?
•Close up shots, mainly medium and long shots, fisheye
lense and macro lens for close/extreme close ups
•Black and white used througout with dark lighting –
maybe at the start and gets brighter as the song goes
on?
MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
SUMMARY
I think the best video idea for me would be an aesthetic
video with hints of a narrative throughout the video as I
wouldn’t be limited to one location and can implement
different vibes into the video, and I can use multiple
people if needed.
SUMMARY
Some restrictions would be the budget as I would have to
spend money to travel to another urban city like Leeds
for example, so I would most likely stay in York, which
means I am limited to how much I can film to fit the 90s
style of the video.
Another restriction would be the weather as in the song
it says “Another sunny afternoon” and unfortunately as it
is getting to autumn/winter time there isn’t sunny
afternoons anymore, so I would have to try and
implement that lyric into something else.
FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Morning Glory - Oasis
Oasis were one of the greatest bands to come out of
Manchester, and were part of the Britpop era, and had a
careless and reckless attitude by taking drugs and alcohol,
which resonated with most young adults at the time in the
1990s. Oasis were most popular during the 1990s, and
performed at massive venues like Maine Road and
Knebworth.
Some similar bands are The Stone Roses, The Verve, The
La’s, The Clash(same attitude), Happy Monday’s, and The
Charlatans
Indie Rock/Britpop - Indie rock is a genre of rock music that
originated in the United States and United Kingdom in the
1970s. Originally used to describe independent record
labels, the term became associated with the music they
FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
The songs meaning has never been explained by the
band themselves, however the fans have broke the song
down and a very common assumption was that it is
about drugs specifically coke. It was known the two
Gallagher brothers suffered from an addiction, so it is
believed the song is about dealing with the addiction.
The pace of the song is quite fast paced so I think having
quick transitions would fit well.
Structurally, the song is very simple as it has one verse,
one pre chorus and a chorus.
The full song is 5.05 minutes long, but I am going to cut
it down to just over 2.30 minutes right after the guitar
solo.
FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
For my music video, the majority of the video is going to
be an aesthetic video which links to the genre, and also
have a little storyline going through it. I will film in
locations that are typical of this genre and the mise-en-
scene will link to this too.
My camera shots will vary from extreme close ups to
long shots, and I will edit them so depending on the
position of the song, it will be in black and white.
TASK 2 Pre-production
Assessment
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
I am going to make an aesthetic video with a small storyline to fit the
lyrics of the song, and add some lyrics at key points of the song for
example the chorus? The intended outcome is for the video to match the
lyrics and almost a tribute to the albums history.
The video will start off with the '(What's the story) morning glory?' Record
being put on a record player and the needle going onto the record and the
song starts. During the instrumentals of the song I will use loads of 25s to
celebrate the anniversary of the album for example the number 25 bus. I
will use videos of someone/something to match the lyrics for example
'walking to the sound of my favorite tune'. The pace of the song is quite
fast so I will have to match the video to the pace of the song, and the tone
of the song is quite depressing as it is about drugs and alcohol, so using a
black and white filter on some of the videos would link to the song. The
song only has one verse so it is just repeated throughout the song as well
as the chorus, therefore the structure of the song is the same throughout.
My interpretation of the song is that it is about the effect of drugs and
how it can make someone's life better, so they would feel sluggish and
does not want to leave bed but after taking drugs and listening to music
LOCATIONS
I am going to film in York and I know the places well,
therefore I don't need to plan a recce. The places in York
that I will be filming in is mainly going to be in the city
center.
As I live approx. A 30 minute walk from the city center it
is very easily accessible, and the wide angle and macro
lens is around £5 maximum, which is easily affordable.
The weather will decide for me the tone of the video, as
if it is sunny then I can link it to how music make life
better implicitly and show it explicitly by the sun; on the
other hand I could show how life is all doom and gloom
by showing the dark weather, which is more likely in the
autumn/winter time. All the places I will be filming are
free and public access so I will not have to pay for
access.
EQUIPMENT
The only equipment I will need is my phone and a wide
angle and a macro lens, and since it is for a phone and
not an actual camera it is a lot cheaper.
FACILITIES
I will edit my videos in college on my week here, and film
on my week out of college.
PERSONNEL
In my team I have my friend Tasha and my sister Lucy
helping me with making decisions on when and what to
film. Lucy has a good eye for detail and Tasha knows
locations to film that link to my videos theme. Their
weaknesses are that they both are always late, so to
overcome this I will have to film earlier in order to get the
shots needed. They are mainly always available, which is a
big positive.
My cast consists of one person Lucy, who is also part of
my crew, and as she is my sister I do not have to pay her
anything to help me, and she is available 95% of the time.
As we both live in the same house it is easily accessible to
the locations needed.
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
Lucy – a 90s fleece, big blue jeans, 90s sunglasses, curly
hair down.
TASK 3.1 Visual Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING Location
PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING Costum
e
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS The majority of the shots will be
wide angled shots, and a variety
of close ups and long shots.
The 4 empty boxes are yet to be
filled as I have not yet figured
out what can fill them; my
original idea was to use
scrabble pieces and do a stop-
motion animation of them all
moving into place ot spell
'Morning Glory'. Some of the
shots will be in black and white,
and for example in the 2nd box,
the whole thing will be in black
and white except the numbers
'2 and 5'. I might put some
shots in slow motion depending
on how many shots I do get to
make it the necessary length.
RIP-O-MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make

racing-cyclist-28499/
STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN
Intro/verse – close-up of record player, shots of the
number 25, shots of the graffiti wall – Lucy in front of it
maybe?, walking down near rowntrees park.
Pre chorus – birds eye shot of Lucy waking up, aesthetic
shots of urban/rural locations, add something else as
well
Chorus – lip sync of Lucy, last line Lucy goes back to bed
Instrumental(end at 2.32) - more aesthetic shots of
urban areas, lyrics over the top, last shot needle being
lifted off the record and it ends.
RED-INTRO/VERSE
BLUE-PRE CHORUS
GREEN-CHORUS
All your dreams are made
When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade
Today's the day that all the world will see
Another sunny afternoon
Walking to the sound of my favorite tune
Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to wake up, wake up
Need a little time to wake up
Need a little time to rest your mind
You know you should so I guess you might as well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
You need a little time to wake up, wake up
Well
What's the story morning glory?
Well
Need a little time to wake up, wake up

Fenwicks Car Park – public access
Rowntrees Park – public access
LOCATIONS
Stonegate Yard

RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Control
Moving cars in the car park As I will be filming in a car park, cars will
be moving in and out of the car park, so to
make sure me and my performer are safe I
will only film when there are no cars
moving or when it is very quiet
Filming the public without their consent As I will be filming in public areas I will film
towards closing time so there are less/no
people around.
Potholes/damaged pathways As York city center has many potholes and
broken pathways, I will film away from
them as it is a trip hazard for both me and
the performer, and could damage
equipment and hurt ourselves.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
Poor weather – film inside
Busy public spaces – film in a similar area that is quieter
Performer busy – use Tasha instead
Phone out of charge – use the performers phone or
charge at a shop
SCHEDULE
Filming – weekends after 1pm on Saturday and 4pm on
Sunday + on w/c 19th Oct
Editing – in class Monday to Wednesday

FINAL IDEA – TRACK SUMMARY The songs meaning has never been explained by the band themselves, however the fans have broke the song down and a very common assumption was that it is about drugs specifically coke. It was known the two Gallagher brothers suffered from an addiction, so it is believed the song is about dealing with the addiction. The pace of the song is quite fast paced so I think having quick transitions would fit well. Structurally, the song is very simple as it has one verse, one pre chorus and a chorus. The full song is 5.05 minutes long, but I am going to cut it down to just over 2.30 minutes right after the guitar solo.
  • 17. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA For my music video, the majority of the video is going to be an aesthetic video which links to the genre, and also have a little storyline going through it. I will film in locations that are typical of this genre and the mise-en- scene will link to this too. My camera shots will vary from extreme close ups to long shots, and I will edit them so depending on the position of the song, it will be in black and white.
  • 19. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINE I am going to make an aesthetic video with a small storyline to fit the lyrics of the song, and add some lyrics at key points of the song for example the chorus? The intended outcome is for the video to match the lyrics and almost a tribute to the albums history. The video will start off with the '(What's the story) morning glory?' Record being put on a record player and the needle going onto the record and the song starts. During the instrumentals of the song I will use loads of 25s to celebrate the anniversary of the album for example the number 25 bus. I will use videos of someone/something to match the lyrics for example 'walking to the sound of my favorite tune'. The pace of the song is quite fast so I will have to match the video to the pace of the song, and the tone of the song is quite depressing as it is about drugs and alcohol, so using a black and white filter on some of the videos would link to the song. The song only has one verse so it is just repeated throughout the song as well as the chorus, therefore the structure of the song is the same throughout. My interpretation of the song is that it is about the effect of drugs and how it can make someone's life better, so they would feel sluggish and does not want to leave bed but after taking drugs and listening to music
  • 20. LOCATIONS I am going to film in York and I know the places well, therefore I don't need to plan a recce. The places in York that I will be filming in is mainly going to be in the city center. As I live approx. A 30 minute walk from the city center it is very easily accessible, and the wide angle and macro lens is around £5 maximum, which is easily affordable. The weather will decide for me the tone of the video, as if it is sunny then I can link it to how music make life better implicitly and show it explicitly by the sun; on the other hand I could show how life is all doom and gloom by showing the dark weather, which is more likely in the autumn/winter time. All the places I will be filming are free and public access so I will not have to pay for access.
  • 21. EQUIPMENT The only equipment I will need is my phone and a wide angle and a macro lens, and since it is for a phone and not an actual camera it is a lot cheaper.
  • 22. FACILITIES I will edit my videos in college on my week here, and film on my week out of college.
  • 23. PERSONNEL In my team I have my friend Tasha and my sister Lucy helping me with making decisions on when and what to film. Lucy has a good eye for detail and Tasha knows locations to film that link to my videos theme. Their weaknesses are that they both are always late, so to overcome this I will have to film earlier in order to get the shots needed. They are mainly always available, which is a big positive. My cast consists of one person Lucy, who is also part of my crew, and as she is my sister I do not have to pay her anything to help me, and she is available 95% of the time. As we both live in the same house it is easily accessible to the locations needed.

  • 25. TASK 3.1 Visual Planning
  • 28. PRE- VISUALISATION/CONCEPT BOARDS The majority of the shots will be wide angled shots, and a variety of close ups and long shots. The 4 empty boxes are yet to be filled as I have not yet figured out what can fill them; my original idea was to use scrabble pieces and do a stop- motion animation of them all moving into place ot spell 'Morning Glory'. Some of the shots will be in black and white, and for example in the 2nd box, the whole thing will be in black and white except the numbers '2 and 5'. I might put some shots in slow motion depending on how many shots I do get to make it the necessary length.
  • 29. RIP-O-MATIC You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic test reel using existing footage to convey the type of video you want to make https://pixabay.com/videos/tree-lined-lane-road- racing-cyclist-28499/
  • 30. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN Intro/verse – close-up of record player, shots of the number 25, shots of the graffiti wall – Lucy in front of it maybe?, walking down near rowntrees park. Pre chorus – birds eye shot of Lucy waking up, aesthetic shots of urban/rural locations, add something else as well Chorus – lip sync of Lucy, last line Lucy goes back to bed Instrumental(end at 2.32) - more aesthetic shots of urban areas, lyrics over the top, last shot needle being lifted off the record and it ends.
  • 31. RED-INTRO/VERSE BLUE-PRE CHORUS GREEN-CHORUS All your dreams are made When you're chained to the mirror and the razor blade Today's the day that all the world will see Another sunny afternoon Walking to the sound of my favorite tune Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon Need a little time to wake up Need a little time to wake up, wake up Need a little time to wake up Need a little time to rest your mind You know you should so I guess you might as well What's the story morning glory? Well You need a little time to wake up, wake up Well What's the story morning glory? Well Need a little time to wake up, wake up

  • 36. LOCATION INFORMATION Stonegate Yard – public access Fenwicks Car Park – public access Rowntrees Park – public access
  • 37. LOCATIONS Stonegate Yard graffiti wall Fenwicks car park (top floor) Rowntrees Park – path down the side
  • 38. RISK ASSESSMENT Risk Control Moving cars in the car park As I will be filming in a car park, cars will be moving in and out of the car park, so to make sure me and my performer are safe I will only film when there are no cars moving or when it is very quiet Filming the public without their consent As I will be filming in public areas I will film towards closing time so there are less/no people around. Potholes/damaged pathways As York city center has many potholes and broken pathways, I will film away from them as it is a trip hazard for both me and the performer, and could damage equipment and hurt ourselves.
  • 39. CONTINGENCY PLAN Poor weather – film inside Busy public spaces – film in a similar area that is quieter Performer busy – use Tasha instead Phone out of charge – use the performers phone or charge at a shop
