Benvolio warns Mercutio not to start fights as they encounter Tybalt from the rival Capulet family in Verona. Tybalt insults Romeo, who has just married Juliet Capulet, but Romeo refuses to fight. Mercutio challenges Tybalt instead and is fatally stabbed. Enraged, Romeo pursues and kills Tybalt, then flees. The prince learns that Tybalt started the conflict and had Mercutio and Romeo killed, so he banishes Romeo rather than executing him.

- 1. NOTES: As Benvolio and Mercutio stroll down the streets of Verona on a hot mad day, Benvolio warns Mercutio that the Capulet’s are abroad so don’t cause any fight’s. As Mercutio starts a fight with anyone. Benvolio reflects his name which means ‘peacemaker’, because he tries to stop the feud. Tybalt approaches them and asks ‘’ ...thou consort'st with Romeo’’, soon after Romeo comes and Tybalt wanted to fight him as Tybalt was insulted by his own uncle as he called him Tybalt a ‘’princox’’, as Tybalt acted immaturely when Romeo interrupted the Capulet’s ball. But Romeo refuses as he is now married to a Capulet and Tybalt’s cousin. Mercutio seems odd and shocked on Romeo’s refusal to fight so Mercutio challenges him, they try and stop the two, but Tybalt stabbed Mercutio under Romeo’s arm and ran away, Mercutio dies, exclaiming the curse that has been bestowed upon the two families. Romeo feels feminine after marrying Juliet which resulted in Romeo refusing the challenge. He goes after Tybalt and ends up killing him, after he realises what he’s done he fleas. The prince arrives in the streets of death, and asks what happened Benvolio says that Tybalt had started it and then led to Tybalt killing Mercutio and then Romeo murdering Tybalt, lady Capulet says that you can’t listen to him as he is related to the Montague’s of course he will ‘pin’ the situation on Tybalt. The prince had felt sympathy as Mercutio was a far relative. Lady Capulet aggress for Romeos execution, but as Tybalt started it the prince made an exception that Romeo should be banished from Verona but if he is found his hour will be his last. Note: it’s a patriarchal society; men had the power and were obeyed...
