their swords… These were the Montagues, and the Capulets.
(Fighting In The Background) – (Prince Escalus arrives)
Prince Escalus: Enough! You threaten the peace of my town and disrupt civilians’’ lives? If I hear
another brawl from the Montagues or the Capulets, the culprit shall be put in prison for life!... Off you
go now! *Sighs* *Looks Troubled*
Random Knight: Your majesty, you look troubled…
Prince Escalus: *Sigh* I worry about the hatred between these families!... Don’t the Montagues have
a son?
Random Knight: Yes. Romeo, your majesty.
Prince Escalus: And the Capulets?
Random Knight: They have a daughter. Her name’s Juliet.
Prince Escalus: Ah! Romeo… And, Juliet…
(Both exits the scene)
~ Scene 2 ~ (Romeo being sad about Rosaline)
Benvolio: *Looking for Romeo* Romeo? Romeo! *Finally found him* There you are! I have been looking
for you since morning!
Romeo: *Sigh* *Looks sad*
Benvolio: Are you okay Romeo? Why do you seem sad? *Looks at what Romeo is holding* Are these
love poems you have been writing? You are in love? With who?
Romeo: Rosaline. But she doesn’t love me. She has vowed to marry another. And it’s not her fault. You
can’t force someone to fall in love with you, Benvolio.
Benvolio: You have to forget her brother.
Romeo: How, Benvolio? Tell me, how does one forget to think?
Benvolio: *Sigh* Oh, Romeo…
~ Scene 3 ~ (Capulet preparing the ballroom invites)
(Capulet is looking at himself in a mirror, calls someone afterwards)
Capulet: Peter! Here is the list of all the invites for the ball today. *Hands Peter the list* Hand it
over to someone. Count Paris is coming too. I wish him to marry Juliet. Our family name will elevate even
more!

you?
Romeo: *Sadly Nods*
(A Random Person enters the scene)
Random Person: Sir! Sir! Can you read this sir?
Romeo: *Gets and reads the paper* What list is this?
Random Person: A guest list for the ball of the Capulets’. If you are not one of the Montagues’, you
are invited as well!
(Random Person exits the scene)
Mercutio: We must go this ball!
Benvolio: Easy for you to say, you are not a Montague! I am not stepping in that house… Mercutio:
But we must go! For Romeo! We will wear masks anyway.
Benvolio: Alright! I’m in! And you are not allowed to say no!
Romeo: Fine. But we must return soon, and not fight anyone there.
Mercutio, Benvolio: Wonderful!
~ Scene 5 ~ (Ballroom Scene)
Capulet: Nobleman and women of Verona, welcome to our humble ball… Let the dancing begin!
Benvolio: Romeo, go find yourself a dance partner. We will help ourselves with some wine. Come
Mercutio! *Exits the scene with Mercutio*
Romeo: Wait! I don’t want to- *Sighs*
Capulet: Count Paris, I’d like you to meet my daughter… Juliet.
Count Paris: *Bows* Aren’t you the most beautiful lady in Verona! May I have the pleasure of a
dance?
(Juliet takes Paris’ hands) – (Everyone dances) – (They keep switching partners until Juliet lands
with Romeo)
Romeo: My heart has either stopped beating or has forgotten how to beat.
Juliet: Wouldn’t you be dead if that were true?
Romeo: No mortal can endure such beauty and stay alive.
(Tybalt at the far corner)
Tybalt: Hmm? Who is that?
Juliet: Who are you again?
Romeo: I am a yearning pilgrim and you are my holy shrine. Kissing you will purge me of my sins. *Kisses
Juliet* *Still dancing*
Juliet: And now, you have given me all your sins. *Removes Romeo’s Mask*
The Nurse: *Comes in the scene* My lady, your mother is looking for you.
(Juliet leaves)
Romeo: Juliet! What a beautiful name! But why is lady Capulet calling her?
The Nurse: Because she is her mother? *Leaves the scene*
Romeo: What?! I am in love with a Capulet?
(Tybalt at the far corner)
Tybalt: Romeo? How dare a Montague set foot in our property!
(Mercutio and Benvolio go to Romeo after seeing Tybalt)
Mercutio: You removed your mask, and now we’re in trouble! Come! Let’s leave!
(Mercutio, Benvolio and Romeo leave the event
Juliet: Nurse! Find out who that man is, the one I was dancing with.
The Nurse: *Nods* *Exits the scene for a bit*
Juliet: Why is my heart yearning to run to him? Is this what they call true love?
The Nurse: *Returns to Juliet* Madam, Tybalt told me who that uncultured boy was… His name is
Romeo, and he is a Montague!
Juliet: No! It can’t be!...
~ Scene 6 ~ (Romeo going to see Juliet)
(Benvolio, Mercutio and Romeo walking) – (Romeo suddenly stops and turns back)
Benvolio: Where do you think you’re going?
Romeo: To speak with my destiny!
Benvolio: Are you mad?! Do you know what you’re doing?
Romeo: *Ignores Benvolio, runs out of the scene to go to Juliet*
Mercutio: Let him go Benvolio… This is what happens to people in love…
~ Scene 7 ~ (Balcony Scene)
(Romeo hides while looking at Juliet)
Juliet: Oh Romeo! My heart aches! You’re a Montague? You don’t know I am a Capulet… But I don’t care
anymore… Oh Romeo! Just once, accept my love and I will stop being a Capulet… I will be anything you
want. Why did you leave?!
(Romeo comes out of his hiding place and surprises Juliet)
Romeo: I did leave! But I couldn’t help coming back.
Juliet: *Surprised* What are you doing here? How did you get here? They will kill you!
Romeo: After listening to my life confessing her love to me, does it really matter if I live or die?
Juliet: Please leave! They will see you!
Romeo: Let them find me here, for my life is better ended by their hate, than live every moment
waiting for your love.
Juliet: You… love me?
Romeo: Juliet, I swear by the moon…
Juliet: I will choose to believe every word you say, knowing well that our families are sworn enemies. I
believe you…
Romeo: Juliet… I love you beyond the meaning of love itself.
The Nurse: *Knocks at the door* Madam?
Juliet: *Gasps* You have to go!
Romeo: I won’t leave without that what I came for… Your vow of love!
Juliet: If your love for me is honorable… Propose marriage, and I will forever be yours. Propose when
and where you will perform the rite, and then and there I shall be!
Romeo: By the hour of nine tomorrow! At Friar Lawrence’s cell!
Juliet: Then there I will be! Now go! Hurry!
Romeo: Goodnight my love!
Juliet: Goodnight my Romeo…
~ Scene 8 ~ (Romeo talks to Friar Lawrence for his marriage to Juliet)
Friar Lawrence: What? You want to get married?...
Romeo: *Nods*
Friar Lawrence: Today? To the only child of Lord Capulet?
Romeo: *Nods again* Right.
Friar Lawrence: Is this a game to you? Do you know the risk you’re taking?
Romeo: What is love without its perils…
Narrator: That afternoon… The love of Romeo and Juliet was secretly celebrated. With the help of
Friar Lawrence, they were now husband and wife… But, that same heavenly afternoon, destiny was about
to change its course.
~ Scene 9 ~ (Tybalt and Romeo have a fight)
Benvolio: *Runs to Mercutio* Mercutio! Look at this! *Gives Mercutio the scroll* Tybalt has sent a
scroll for Romeo.
Mercutio: *Reads the scroll* He challenges Romeo to a duel…
Benvolio: So, now what?
Mercutio: When Tybalt comes, he will find me. Not Romeo.
(Tybalt running around trying to find Romeo)
Tybalt: ROMEO! Come on out! You didn’t think you’d sneak into our house, and the Capulets wouldn’t
know?!
Mercutio: *Appears* Of course not!
Tybalt: Mercutio! I am not here for you. Don’t test me!
Mercutio: Why? Afraid you will fail?
Tybalt: Grrr… You asked for this!!!
(Tybalt draws his sword, and fights Mercutio) – (While they’re fighting, Romeo arrives)
Romeo: Stop fighting! Remember what the prince said?! You both will be imprisoned for life! Stop!
(Tybalt stabs Mercutio)
Romeo: NOOO!!!
(Mercutio drops to the ground) – (Tybalt runs off)
Romeo: NO! MERCUTIO!! NO!
Mercutio: *Speaks weakly* Goodbye…my…friend…
(Benvolio appears in the scene)
Romeo: *Looks mad* Benvolio…Stay with him…
(Romeo chases after Tybalt)
Romeo: TYBALT!!! STOP!
(They start fighting) – (Romeo stabs Tybalt) – (Tybalt drops dead on the ground) – (Benvolio
comes)
Benvolio: Romeo! What have you done?! They will put you in prison!
Romeo: *Drops his sword* What have I done…
~ Scene 10 ~ (Prince Escalus banishes Romeo from Verona; Capulet and Paris discuss Juliet’s
Marriage)
(In Prince Escalus’ Kingdom)
Prince Escalus: Tybalt killed Mercutio, and Romeo killed Tybalt… Hmmm… I hereby declare that
Romeo is banished from Verona! Romeo must leave immediately, and if he is seen in Verona, that will be
the end of him!
(Paris enter the room)
Capulet: Paris! I have good news! I have decided to get you and Juliet married this Thursday.
Paris: I love Juliet! I have waited for long… But, does she want to marry me?
Capulet: I don’t have to ask her for her consent.
Paris: If that’s the case, then I can’t wait for Thursday!
~ Scene 11 ~ (Friar Lawrence gives Juliet the poison and makes a plan)
Narrator: After Capulet and Count Paris’ discussion, of course, this news was passed down to Juliet…
Now, what does she think of her father’s decision?
Juliet: No! I don’t want to marry him! I already have a husband…
Friar Lawrence: But your husband is banished from here…
Juliet: Does anybody understand? I am forced to marry another man… My heart wants to leave my
body… It refuses to beat without Romeo… If you don’t help me, I will surely die.
Friar Lawrence: You give me no other option… You and Romeo are dear to me… There is a way! But it
involves a lot of risk. I will give you a poison extracted from a very rare flower. It will stop your pulse
for a day… Thinking you’re dead, your family will bury you in the Capulet’s tomb. I will send a letter to
Romeo. If everything goes as per my plan, you will wake up to see your Romeo.
Juliet: If death is the only way to see Romeo again, I am ready!
Friar Lawrence: Okay, I will send Friar John to take my message to Romeo today. Tomorrow night,
send your Nurse away and drink this. *Hands the vial* It will take affect immediately.
Juliet: *Feeling relieved* Thank you…
Friar Lawrence: Farewell, my child. May God be with you.
~ Scene 12 ~ (Juliet drinks the poison)
(Juliet is laying on her bed, holding the vial filled with poison)
Juliet: Oh Romeo… *Drinks the poison*
(The nurse enters the room)
The Nurse: Juliet! What makes you sleep so much on your wedding day?! *Shakes Juliet to wake her
up* Come on child, wake up! Juliet. Juliet?! Madam? My child? Why isn’t there a pulse? No, no! NO!! My
child!!, No… *Sobs near Juliet’s sleeping body*
~ Scene 13 ~ (Romeo discovers that Juliet is dead)
Narrator: After the Nurse’s discovery. The Capulets are on their way to bury Juliet in the Capulet’s
tomb, when Benvolio spotted them.
Romeo: Benvolio! What news do you bring? How is my lady? As beautiful as ever! Of course!
Benvolio: *Stays quiet*
Romeo: Benvolio. Why aren’t you answering?
Benvolio: Romeo… Your Juliet is dead.
Romeo: What!? That is a lie!
Benvolio: I wish it were! But… I saw her body with my own eyes…
Romeo: No… NO!!!
Benvolio: Romeo…
Narrator: After hearing the horrid news, carrying a strong vial of poison… Romeo rushes to Juliet
just to see her again one last time.
~ Scene 14 ~ (Romeo rushes to see Juliet)
Random Capulet: Why are you here, Montague?
Romeo: Does that name still matter? I am a dead man. Going to see my love.
Random Capulet: You are not going anywhere! How dare you step near a Capulet’s tomb!
Romeo: I am not here to harm you… I am only here to kill myself.
Random Capulet: Stop with your excuses! *Draws sword and fights Romeo*
(Romeo stabs the Random Capulet and kills him in the process)
Romeo: Rest in peace, my friend… The person who killed you will not live for long…
(Romeo exits the scene to find Juliet)
~ Scene 15 ~ (Last scene; Romeo and Juliet’s Tragic End)
(Romeo approaches Juliet’s lying body)
Romeo: *Crying loudly* My love! My life! How are you still so beautiful?! Death took you away, but it
could not take your beauty. *Grabs the vial of poison* I am joining my love in eternity… Remember what
I said?! The next time we meet, we will never be apart. *Shows the vial of poison* This is the most
divine poison on Earth, for it will reunite us… *Drinks the poison*
(After a while, Juliet awakens)
Juliet: *Opens her eyes* Romeo?
Romeo: Is it already heaven? I should have drunk the poison hours back.
Juliet: What?... Poison?...
(Romeo slowly falls to the ground)
Juliet: Romeo! No! What did you do?!
Romeo: Juliet… I…love…you…
Juliet: No! Romeo! NO!!! My Romeo… *Grabs the empty vial and tries to drink it* Not a single drop
for me to follow after? But surely it still lingers in your lips!... Wait for me my love, I am coming to you
with this last earthly kiss… *Kisses Romeo* No! The poison isn’t enough! *Grabs Romeo’s sword and
stabs herself*
(Juliet drops dead to the ground with Romeo)
~ Scene 16 ~ (Gathering of both families; Everyone looks sad)
Prince Escalus: Today’s morning brings an unusual peace to Verona… One that is wrapped in sadness,
for two souls have humbled the entire town with the purity and innocence of their love. Tonight, the
moon will be ashamed to show its face. Tonight, the stars won’t twinkle… No more will we have such a sad
end, for never was a love story of more woe than this, of Romeo, and Juliet… And never there ever will
be…
