My final evaluation unit 21
- 1. My Final Evaluation. Unit 21 Creative Productionis about getting the chance to show offyour ownabilities andhave the freedom to do whatever mediasector you enjoyedthe most over the past 2 years. I was debatinginitiallywhether to do photographyor a music video, as theyare the units I have enjoyed the most, but because I’m aimingfor a topmerit or maybe a distinction I decided to create a music video. I didthis because I have a personal interest in creating films andmusic is a bigpassionof mine soI thought thiswouldbe perfect for me to get the most out ofmyfinal media unit. My initial idea wasfor me to create a performance andnarrative style videoandI believe I achieved that goal as you cansee throughthe storyboard and the final product shots. I definitelygot allthe shot anglesthat I wanted. I believe that mystrengths with this project were teaching the other people filming how to effectivelyuse the camera andtripod but I feel like I could’ve usedthe tripod more for certainshots throughout the video. A lot of myvideo was based in Cornwallwhilst on holidayso I think throughout productionI used mytime wellandspacedout all the shots nicelyover different days. Mypre-production wasslightlylessorganisedbecause I couldn’t create a productionschedule until I knew the days I wasfree onholidaysoI wrote the productionschedule ona daybydaybasisbecause thenit would look more organisedandI rememberedall the shots takenoncertaindays andwhowas involved inthe shots andwhere we were at the time. Whoever I workedwiththroughout the videowhether I wasfilming themor theywere filming me, everyone got on welland there were noarguments apart from me gettingassertive at some points during the darker scenes because it was freezing outside andeveryone was getting coldandstressed sowe just needed to get it done as quicklyandefficientlyas possible. It was hard doing pre-production such as the risk assessment because I didn’t really know the environment I was goingto be inas I hadnever beento the area I was visitingbefore but I got there eventually. I learnt new skillsabout how to work withthe tripodeffectivelyand how to get goodangles for certainshots like close ups and side shots and how to use backgrounds to myadvantage. I startedpre-productionbydoingresearchon the artist whose song I was coveringfor the video andre-watched the original videoto get more ofaninsight intoher creative way of thinkingsoI hadsome more ideas. ThenI didsome researchintodifferent types of videos andthe aspects that were necessaryto research before startingthe productionof myvideo. As everyone has beenreallyhelddownfinishingtheir ownpieces for their finalunit 21 creative production, I couldn’t get much feedback from other students onmyproject but I feelpersonallythat it came out well andI’m happywith it. It’s the first time I’ve done a project where I have beenthe boss ofallthe productionworksoI was a bit stressedabout meeting all the deadlines but whenit all came together I wasreallyhappy. Lookingback onthe entire process I feel like mystrengths were balancing out the timings andnot rushingit but with myweaknesses I feel like some of the filming generallycould’ve been better like havinga steadier hand whendoing the movingshots andcertainangles could’ve beenshot better.
- 2. This is one of mystronger shots I like because eventhough a raindrophasmade it blurryit makes a nice effect andthe background is just a naturallyprettycontrast witha clear angle shot. I feel like looking backI should’ve shot thisangle fromthe front rather than behindthen had a panningshot to show the lights andgo through fromthere but the black andwhite was a nice effect for the scene soI’mgladI chose that. Through the process of editing I went througha lot ofvideo effects before I decidedto have some on colour and some in blackandwhite. I used the black and white for mainlythe stuffthat was shot later at night because the lightingwas terrible to make the lighting considerablybetter. However, one shot I put in black and white which was during the dayto give off an almost vintage flashback feel to it whichwas myinitial idea andI fell in love withthe blackandwhite footage instantly, so much I almost put it allinblackandwhite but some of the colour contrasts were toogood to change just to plainblack and white. During pre-productionI learnt a lot onhowto organise myself welland space out mytimings ina goodwaythroughout the week of filming, plus the few extra days of filmingthe last fewshots closer to home.
