Periodic Table
  By Matthew Ochinero
What it is...
• The Periodic table is a table of the chemical elements
arranged in order of atomic number, usually in rows, so that
elements with similar atomic structure appear in vertical
    columns.

• This table includes a total of 118 elements...for now...
Creator

• Dmitri Mendeleev developed the main body
of the periodic table around about 1869,
since then many scientists have added
elements and new discoveries to it.

• He became known as “The Father of the
    Periodic Table”
How It’s Organized
• The Periodic Table is organized in rows and
    columns.‘Families’

• Reading from left to right, they are arranged in
    increasing atomic number
Organization/
           Relationships

• Mendeleev found he could arrange the 65 elements
in the table making them go from a higher atomic
weight to a lower. For example, magnesium
(atomic weight 24.3) is placed to the right of
    sodium (atomic weight 23.0)

• He also organized similar chemical properties to
other elements in the same column - in other words
    similar chemical reactions.

          Relationships...

• The periodic table is laid out in rows to illustrate
recurring (periodic) trends in the chemical behavior
of the elements as their atomic number increases: a
new row is begun when chemical behavior begins
    to repeat

• This means that elements with similar behavior fall
    into the same vertical columns.
