• #3: Heath: Hello everyone. Welcome to today’s presentation “Myths busted: Get the truth about IBM i Data Access”. Today you will talk about and debunk some of the more common myths around BI and data access on the IBMi About today’s session, if you have questions during the session, please use the CHAT feature and send a message to All Panelists, and we will address those questions during our Q&A at the conclusion of the webinar. • #6: Mike: The agenda today cover the three myths about data access on the IBMi.
• #7: There are many reasons that cause some businesses to think that a BI solution is too expensive. Some believe BI is too expensive and they are getting data. The executives don’t always realize that the IT department has to jump through hoops and do a lot of manual processing in order to get some numbers. The data that is delivered in a better BI and data access tool pays for itself in that executives can get current data and more accurate data because manual intervention is reduced or no longer needed. Organizational licensing for some tools breaks even the highest budgets. The next two myths also touch on the ‘too expensive’ myths but these are some of the more direct affects.
• #8: Most organizations have people already on the payroll that know and understand the business whether they know that or not. The people who are creating the reports that include accessing the data, downloading it, manipulating it and delivering it, know a lot about the business and the database. It is rare that you need to hire a data scientist or be a genius in order to create BI reports or displays. A BI tool like Sequel is intuitive to those people. The GUI and browser based products use standards that are familiar to anyone with basic Windows skills. Top rated training and support is available as well as consulting for those who may need a kick start in getting the information.
• #9: The best and fastest way to get current data to executives and management is to let them run the dashboards, displays or reports when they want or need to. Moving data from the IBMi to another server, requires additional hardware costs and licensing costs. This can be cost prohibitive for a lot of companies. Some companies believe that moving data to a PC server is the only way to quickly access data and allow users to play with the data. IBM has vastly improved the processing speed of the SQE over the last several releases. The new IBMi servers are ‘screamers’ especially when compared to the older query engine. Sequel can run in the SQE for performance. Pivot tables can be displayed and dynamic drilling is available for further data analysis.
• #10: Some additional busted myths are BI takes a long time and a lot of resources; the ‘cool’ stuff costs more as add-on; data still must be manually changed before presenting. None of these are true with Sequel.
