INQUIRY RESEARCH
1NQUIRY RESEARCH
Both involve investigative work in which you seek
information about something by searching or
examining the object you search
- to look for information
by asking various
questions about the thing
you are curious about
- to discover truths by
investigating on your
chosen topic scientifically

INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
MEANING OF INQUIRY
 Inquiry is a learning process that motivates you to obtain
knowledge or information about people, things, places or
events.
 You do this by asking questions
 It requires you to collect data, meaning, facts and information
about the object of your inquiry, and examine such data
carefully
FOUNDATIONTHEORIES OF IBL
 John Dewey’sTheory of connected experiences for exploratory
or reflective thinking ;
 LevVygosky’s Zone of Proximal Development that stresses the
essence of provocation and scaffolding in learning;
 Jerome Bruner’s theory on learners’ varied world perceptions
for their own interpretative thinking of people and things
around them
JOHN DEWEY’STHEORY OF CONNECTED EXPERIENCES
FOR EXPLORATORY OR REFLECTIVE THINKING ;
• Dewey argued that education should focus on the quality
of the experience more than it focused on the information
being presented.
• In order to be considered a quality experience, he said that
the experience must have continuity with their past and
future experiences and interaction between the student's
individual perceptions and a lesson environment.
• Continuity would propel learners to continue learning
while interaction would meet the learner's needs.

INQUIRY MODEL
Nature and Importance of Research
INQUIRY,AS A WAY OF LEARNING, CONCERNS ITSELF WITH
THESE ELEMENTS:
 changing knowledge
 creativity
 subjectivity
 socio-cultural factors
 sensory experience
 higher-order thinking strategies
ADVANTAGES OF INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
 Elevates interpretative thinking through graphic skills
 Improve student learning abilities
 Widens learners’ vocabulary
 Facilitates problem-solving acts
 Increases social awareness and cultural knowledge
 Encourages cooperative learning
 Provides mastery of procedural knowledge
 Encourages higher-order thinking strategies
 Hasten conceptual understanding

THE NATURE OF RESEARCH
RESEARCH
A process of executing various mental acts for discovering and
examining facts and information to prove the accuracy or
truthfulness of your claims or conclusions about the topic
Requires you to inquire or investigate about your chosen
research topic by asking questions that will make you engage
yourself in top-level thinking strategies of interpreting, analysing,
synthesizing, criticizing, appreciating, or creating to enable you
to discover truths about the many things you tend to wonder
about the topic of your research work.
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH
Accuracy. It must give correct data, which the footnotes,
notes, and bibliographical entries should honestly and
appropriately documented or acknowledged.
Objectiveness. It must deal with facts, not with mere
opinions arising from assumptions, generalizations,
predictions or conclusions.
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH
Timeliness. It must work on a topic that is fresh,
new and interesting to the present society.
Relavance. Its topic must be instrumental in
improving society or in solving problems affecting
the lives of people in a community.
CHARACTERISTICS OF RESEARCH
Clarity. It must succeed in expressing its central
point or discoveries by using simple, direct, concise
and correct language.
Systematic. It must take place in an organized or
orderly manner.
The Role of Research
• It is an inquiry process.
• It is a formal process of problem solving.
• It is a set of procedures and stages.
• It originates with a question or a problem.
• It is an iterative process.
Research provides solid foundation for
the:
• Discovery and creation of knowledge, theory- building;
• Testing, confirmation, revision, and refutation of knowledge as
theory;
• Advance a discipline or field;
• Advancements and improvements in various aspects of life;
• Promotion and tenure of individuals.
Significance of Research
1. To gather necessary information
2. To improve standard of living
3. To have a safer life
4. To know the truth
5. To explore our history buff
6. To understand arts
