Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar energy system owners for excess electricity generated and added to the grid. It allows customers with solar panels or other renewable energy systems to get credit on their electricity bills for energy fed back to the grid. Through net metering, energy used from the grid is offset by energy produced, and any excess energy generated can be credited or rolled over to offset future energy costs. Net metering is legal in Pakistan under regulations established in 2015 to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity costs.
