Proposed Cash Donations Option for State FEMA National Management System Portal October 18, 2007
Work Group’s request for presentation Network for Good has participated in the Cash Implementation Strategy meetings to share our experience with processing cash donations online. The Work Group to Develop Suggested State Criteria has discussed implementation options for cash donations within the state portals. This work group found that each state may have unique reporting and implementation needs and requested that Network for Good demonstrate how we could help facilitate these requests. Please note that there would be no additional charge if a states chooses this option.
Why Network for Good? We are the Internet’s largest charitable resource, bringing together donors, volunteers and more than a million charities online to accomplish good. We have processed over $145 million in donations for 25,000 nonprofits; a trusted source for cash donations online. We meet the BBB Wise Giving Alliance’s standards for charity accountability which is of top concern and scrutiny during times of crisis. We are also registered in all states. We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit donor advised fund headquartered in Bethesda, MD, founded in 2001 by AOL, Cisco Systems and Yahoo!.
What is Network for Good’s role in times of crisis? We are prepared to react . There is an “impulse effect” with cash donations online; it spikes and drops within a short, two- to six-day timeframe. Network for Good’s donation option is always ready to go. We have record giving experience. Network for Good processed more than $13 million in donations to more than 300 organizations providing Hurricane Katrina relief and more than $11M in donations to 69 nonprofit organizations providing relief during the Tsunami. We have reliable capacity . With an increasing proportion of cash donations handled online (half during Katrina up from one-fifth after 9/11); the ability to handle peak traffic is critical We comfortably handled more than 1,800 donations per hour– the equivalent to a donation every other second. On September 1, 2005 we had our busiest day ever, processing $3 million in donations in a single day.
What the Network for Good option would look like As currently planned each state will have a cash donation portal page as defined by the committee. The name of the charity would link to that charity’s donation page on Network for Good.
How the donation page would look to donors Depending on how much the state would like the donation experience to look like the donation portal, the state can choose from one of these branding options: Top banner Upper right corner of donation page None
How real time reporting can be useful Network for Good can provide the state the way to view the total amount of cash donations from the state portal in real-time. The states could use this information as they see fit. Examples include: On a web site To track internally To share with the Governor’s office To share with media
What the detail reporting could look like (optional) Network for Good can also provide a report to the state that includes: Dollar amount generated through the portal Number of donations generated through the portal What charities are receiving donations and how much
Other state requirements we can handle Network for Good handles the tax receipt and customer service related to cash donations Network for Good gives donors the option to cover fees that are incurred with all online transaction; 80% of our donors choose cover the 4.75% fee so that 100% goes to charity We make the donor information available to the charities which they can access and download online 24-7 Advanced donation options for all charities Multiple payment options (credit card, online check and PayPal) Automated recurring giving (monthly, quarterly, annually) Donation history available to donors online
