Networking Experience (complete one for each event and upload to your blog in the suitable post) May The Force Be with You: Careers and Opportunities in the Screen Sector October 10th , 2022 Bob Murray Library, Sunderland University Who was it with? The event was held at Sunderland University at the Bob Murray Library on October 10th 2022 and was hosted by Northeast Screen and presented by Lord David Puttnam. David Puttnam is a British filmmaker, politician and educator. He has been active in the industry for nearly 50 years and during that time has been responsible for producing some of the most well known and classic British films such as Bugsy Malone, Local hero, The Killing Fields and over 40 more. He was the winner of the 1982 academy awards for best picture with Chariots of fire, along with 4 BAFTA awards. He was also a member of the House Of Lords from 1997 to 2021, representing the Labour party and has been a passionate advocate for environmental protection, the education of young people, and the funding of creative industries for the North East of England for over 16 years. What did you learn? The seminar explores the future of film production and what we can expect to see in terms of advances in the way we consume and create media content. He gives guidance to young people entering the media sector on what they can do to get a foothold in the door and what to expect early in their careers. This event really helped me get a better grasp of what it is like to work in the film industry and the large number of career paths I am able to go down after I finish my time in education, some of which I did not even knew were an option. I have learned about Northeast Screens and how they can help me get into the industry and the amazing work they do to facilitate creative industries in the North East of England and how there is an inequal amount of funding that goes into creative industries, particularly in the North East.
