Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk in 2016, is developing implantable brain-machine interfaces designed to help people with paralysis communicate and control devices using their thoughts. Their technology includes a 4mm-square chip implanted in the skull connected to ultrafine threads that detect neuronal signals, which were successfully tested on monkeys and pigs, gaining FDA approval for human trials. While promising for therapeutic use, it also poses risks such as brain injury, privacy invasion, and high costs.
