This Week’s Highlights
Phonics
We will be learning about the letter Yy and the
sound it makes. Also, we will continue to work on
producing words with specific sounds in them,
alphabetizing, and listening for specific sounds in
words.
Reading
We will begin our new unit called Red, White, and
Blue with a story titled A Flag for Our Country. Also
this week, we will be reading an informational story
titled Patriotism. We will work on the
comprehension skills making connections,
informational text features, and main idea/details.
Writing
We will have our author’s celebration to celebrate
the fantastic small moment stories we have been
writing. We will also learn about adjectives and how
we can use them in our writing.
Math
We will learn about capacity and continue to work
with numbers 0-20, nickels, and story problems.
Science/Social Studies
We will learn about living and nonliving things and
start learning about how living things go through
different life cycles.
Special Notes
Valentine’s Party
I am still in need of someone to supply the
fruit tray and forks for our party this Friday.
Let me know if you can help!
Volunteer Opportunities
Homework BINGO
See if you can get 3 BINGO’s this week by completing activities on the board.
* I know these activities are starting to seem repetitive but they are still skills we
are trying to master!
Work on the concept of
place value, the idea
that the number 23 is
made of two groups of
ten and 3 ones and can
be represented like
this:
▪▪▪
Practice identifying the
middle and last sounds
heard for 3 letter
words.
Practice identifying,
ordering, and writing
numbers 0-20. If your
child can do all that
then start working on
numbers 21-30!
Practice identifying
name and worth and
counting of coins
(pennies, dimes, and
nickels).
On the top of a piece of
paper, write one vowel
and 6-8 consonants.
Make words with your
child, distinguishing
between which ones are
real or not real words.
Stick to consonant
vowel consonant words.
Practice saying the
sounds that make up a
word. For example,
forth would be /f/ /or/
/th/. Stick to 3-4
sound words.
Practice acting out with
objects simple addition
and subtraction story
problems using amounts
up to 10. Write the
number sentence for
the problem (ex. 5 + 2 =
7).
Practice counting as
high as they can go.
Also, practice counting
by 2’s to 30 and 5’s to
100.
Practice telling time to
the hour & half hour
and writing it.
