Newton's Laws describe the motion of objects. Newton's First Law states that objects at rest stay at rest and objects in motion stay in motion with the same speed and direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Newton's Second Law states that the acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, and inversely proportional to the object's mass. Newton's Third Law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Free-body diagrams are used to identify all the forces acting on an object and indicate the directions of the forces.
