Notes:  The Six Nutrients Nutrients are the parts of the food that the body uses for energy and growth. There are 6 types of nutrient molecules

What are proteins used for?  b) making chemicals like hormones and enzymes a) building and repairing cells
What are proteins that come from animals? Meat Eggs Cheese Milk fish
Beans Seeds nuts
Should get _ 10-15 _% of your diet from protein.
What do fats do in the body? a)  build cells b) protect the organs c) store/provide energy d) help the body stay warm
 
Saturated Fats are __solid__ at room temperature.
 
Which is the one type of fat you should avoid? Trans-fats
Hydrogenating oils = making a liquid oil into a solid (margarine, crisco etc.. b) Cooking oils too long causing them to turn  ORANGE Trans fats may cause CANCER or HEART DISEASE

Vitamins are compounds made by living things
Minerals are elements from _ rocks _ that  get into _ _ plants_ __ from the soil.  example:  calcium,  iron,  zinc, etc..
Similarities: Both are vitally important yet are needed in __  only small amounts__
