OLinks How to use OLinks, a.k.a. Find It! or Find a Copy to locate a print or electronic copy of a book or article through OhioLINK. Plus, other features including Interlibrary Loan and Citation formatting.
OLinks: The Basics OLinks is used to locate a copy of an item found in OhioLINK research databases in electronic format (if available) or at the University Toledo or other OhioLINK libraries. Look for the words ‘OLinks’, Find a Copy, Find It!, or the graphic in a database to open an OLinks window. OLinks will attempt to match the citation with a list of electronic subscriptions or try to find a printed copy in UTMOST or the OhioLINK catalog, depending on the item.
OLinks: Finding a Copy This is a basic OLinks screen when there are both electronic and print copies available. Full Text (electronic) copy available, follow this link to another database. Copies available at UT. Be sure to note the location where your Volume and Year are shelved. This is the citation to the article. Note volume/year information.
OLinks: Finding an Electronic Copy Depending on the source of the full text, you will retrieve the full article differently… If you click on… Look for…
OLinks: Finding a Print Copy When no electronic copies are available, only the ‘Copies in your Library:’ will show. When no print copies are available either, you can search by title (sometimes OLinks makes a mistake) or View holdings statewide to see what other OhioLINK libraries have a copy, or…
OLinks: If no copies are available … you can obtain the article from Interlibrary Loan or search for the article on the open Internet. Use OLinks to place your ILL request and the form information will be filled in automatically! Just enter your Name/ID at the bottom. Related web sites from Google searches for the title words from your article. To improve results, “enclose in quotes” or search Google Scholar.
OLinks: Citation Formatting One final trick that OLinks can help with is to format your bibliographic citation in different styles, such as APA or MLA. Just choose a citation style, click ‘Go’ and copy/paste the formatted citation from the next screen. Be sure to double check your citation for capitalization, missing information, etc. Remember—computers aren’t perfect!
