The marine biome covers most of the Earth's surface and is home to a vast diversity of plant and animal life. It has an average temperature of 3-4 degrees Celsius and environments that range from icy and windy above water to choppy or wave-filled in the open ocean. Some common plants include various corals, mangroves, seaweeds, mosses, algae and ferns, while common animals include seals, whales, fish like catfish and barracuda, plankton, jellyfish, and billions of other species. The barracuda is a long, thin fish with large teeth that preys on other animals but is not often preyed upon itself, except occasionally by sharks or large fish
