Open Educational Resources (OER) are freely accessible educational materials that can be legally copied, used, adapted and re-shared. OERs range from textbooks to videos and include materials for both students and educators. For students, OERs provide decreased costs, availability of materials anytime and anywhere, and access to hundreds of free university courses. For educators, OERs allow for clarity on reuse of materials, increased collaboration, and social responsibility in providing education for all. However, finding and curating quality OERs takes time, and some resources lack accessibility standards or teacher skills to effectively implement OERs.

- 2. What are Open Educational Resources (OER)? Open Educational Resources (OERs) are any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation. (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization)
- 3. Benefits of using OER . . For Students: Decreased cost – open education resources are free Availability of material – students can prepare before class and still have access after the class is completed Availability – hundreds of free courses are available through leading universities.

- 5. Challenges of using OER . . Time – to find material from multiple resources Quality – lack of open quality standards can cause increased time commitment to review material Accessibility – some open resources do not comply with accessibility requirements for users with disabilities.
