Open Source in the Enterprise

Editor's Notes

  • #4: Drupal is a good fit for Stanford “Die luft der freiheit weht”
  • #5: Stanford in numbers That’s a lot of projects -- actually that figure only represents “sponsored” projects This environment creates lots of websites
  • #6: Our Stanford Sites platform hosts over 1,000 websites It runs on a stack of about ~100 modules but we only had to make a dozen or so ourselves “many eyes tame complexity” also helps with security threats
  • #8: There is an insular local Drupal community at Stanford, but we interact with the global Drupal community Shops that compete for business have individuals that are friends and colleagues; Everyone comes together for DrupalCon
  • #9: We can’t handle it all ourselves, BUT Drupal companies exist!
  • #13: This book should be considered required reading for companies that are delving into open source Written 15 years ago, but still extremely pertinent today
