Classroom Conversations- Strategies on creating a creative, collaborative and connected classroom
1. How should education evolve to accommodate the challenges triggered by the digital
revolution?
• Embrace technology
• Embrace it and use it in class as We need more conversations online
• Digital tools should enhance our processes of learning instead of us accommodating to
them.
• ICT is used as a complimentary tool for teaching but not ultimately taking over the classroom
teaching.
• We should try to include aspects of it into our lessons as often as possible.
• Pen n paper based assessment needs to be reduced, more online lessons
• Students need to be taught self discipline and more digital expertise support
• Move away from pen and paper
• We should incorporate ICT in progressive and effective ways, but are wondering about how
assessment fits in the picture
• It should be more student-centred and less teacher-directed. With the use of web tools, we
can enable students to learn and respond
2. How can curricula and classroom practices be tailored to meet students' needs and
abilities?
• Identification of needs and abilities, then the tailoring that comes with it where support for
subject matter for the Low progress and stretching for the high progress learners
• Depending on the learning targets, age appropriateness, how well versed the pupils are in
handling the ICT tools ( IT savvy)
• Incorporate Ways for differentiated learning
• Alternative Assessment that are Digital-based with mixed of SSL n CoL activities for Socio-
cognitive development; Flipped classroom n more discussions; Classroom routines (ICT
lesson); good proper Communicative English
• We need to first better understand students' needs and abilities through diagnostic tests
and data gathering, and with reference to the national syllabus.
• Present curricula in bite-size components
• Encourage reflective writing and keeping of Study journals
3. What are some of the best practices & guidelines that we can use in our classrooms?
• Set a clear agenda
• Use more Pollev
• Flexibility-whole school planning
• Age appropriateness syllabus and curriculum that is also ability driven
• School leadership support
• Don't be a cyber bully
• Hands on presentation
• Discipline and routines
• Collaboration
• Just do it! Failure will only make you stronger!
• Making thinking visible through visual mapping
• Fulfilling lesson objectives
• Student-centred.
• Structured and sufficient scaffolding
• Tasks and activities must not be too easy or too difficult
• I think there is no such thing as 'best practices'. Practices are only 'best' in so far as the
learning outcomes are achieved
4. What are some of the best tools that you are currently using to engage students?
• Facebook
• Coffee
• Kahoot, Nearpod, Class Dojo, Symbaloo, Mindmeister
• Nearpod,nearpod, Kahoot,peardeck,lino,plickers, pigeonhole,adobe
spark,storybird,edmodo,
• Google apps, polleverywhere,Edmodo,Answergarden
• Handphone instead of laptop; saves setting up time; Google, Nearpod, Sicrative
• Whatever organising system should be flexible to adapt for different purposes - for e.g
Ingrade
• Reflection journals, tools that value-add to learning outcomes
• Tools that make students' thinking visible such as word clouds and mind maps
• Google apps, edmodo
• The good ol' whiteboard. Competitions, puzzles, challenges, contextualised tasks
