Parametric Simulation Resolution
Parametric Simulation with IESVE Software
— DATA: Traditional APACHE Simulation for one design model can generate Gigabytes of Results
— Weather, Surface, Room, Zone, System, Component, Energy, Carbon, Cost, Water, etc
— 8,760 hourly time-series data per year
— TIME: Takes significant time to generate that data.
— Even with Parallel Simulation modes
— Sequencing: Solar, Daylight, Loads, Sizing, Annual Simulation

— One Seat can access four Logical Processors; i.e. four months simulate simultaneously.
— Multiple Seats can access four Logical Processors per license; e.g. all 12 months simulate simultaneously.
— E.g. Design-Day Loads Calculations and HVAC Equipment Sizing is ‘per month’
— Traditional APACHE cannot do this. It sequences each month one after the other

Questions
www.iesve.com
Is the Parametric Simulation feature Licensed separately?
- Yes, but everyone has access to it and it is a free added feature.
- In IESVE-2024, go to ‘Help’ menu: Refresh Keys to access the feature.
Is Parametric Simulation Resolution Licensed separately?
- Yes. Everyone with multiple seats has access to it. This is 4-13X faster.
Questions
www.iesve.com
Is the Weather Parameter for Resiliency only?
- Yes. Currently, it is setup to change the weather file only, not the
location or design day conditions.
- Consider setting the design day conditions to meet the needs to
future morphed annual hourly weather data. Check VistaPro:

Questions
www.iesve.com
Is the Parametric Simulation for Schematic Design only?
- No. Example Detailed Design permutations include HVAC system files, or
Weather files, or perhaps construction assembly types.
- However, some Parameters are SD-only features, suitable for say a LEED
Integrative Process credit because it gets applied to all of the model.
- E.g. % Glazing WWR, Orientation, Internal Gain Power Density

Can I use the Parametric Simulation for Daylighting?
- Yes, if the study is for Daylight controls of Lighting Energy.
- Lighting Dimming: RadianceIES
- No, if the study is for a Climate-Based Daylight metric: UDI, sDA, ASE.
- However, there are methods to do a “Click Simulate Once” here…

Design-Day Loads Calculations and HVAC Equipment Sizing is ‘per month’ — Traditional APACHE cannot do this. It sequences each month one after the other www.iesve.com

  • 19. 8/28/2024 19 Questions www.iesve.com Is the Parametric Simulation feature Licensed separately? - Yes, but everyone has access to it and it is a free added feature. - In IESVE-2024, go to ‘Help’ menu: Refresh Keys to access the feature. Is Parametric Simulation Resolution Licensed separately? - Yes. Everyone with multiple seats has access to it. This is 4-13X faster. Questions www.iesve.com Is the Weather Parameter for Resiliency only? - Yes. Currently, it is setup to change the weather file only, not the location or design day conditions. - Consider setting the design day conditions to meet the needs to future morphed annual hourly weather data. Check VistaPro: Climate Zones
  • 20. 8/28/2024 20 Questions www.iesve.com Is the Parametric Simulation for Schematic Design only? - No. Example Detailed Design permutations include HVAC system files, or Weather files, or perhaps construction assembly types. - However, some Parameters are SD-only features, suitable for say a LEED Integrative Process credit because it gets applied to all of the model. - E.g. % Glazing WWR, Orientation, Internal Gain Power Density www.iesve.com — Logical Processors — Ctrl + Alt + Delete — Task Manager (Performance Tab) Questions — IESVE License Seats — Help menu / — License Control / Check Usage: How do I check the # of Licenses & Logical Processors? … and a Recommendation?
  • 21. 8/28/2024 21 Questions www.iesve.com Can I use the Parametric Simulation for Daylighting? - Yes, if the study is for Daylight controls of Lighting Energy. - Lighting Dimming: RadianceIES - No, if the study is for a Climate-Based Daylight metric: UDI, sDA, ASE. - However, there are methods to do a “Click Simulate Once” here… Questions www.iesve.com Can I use the Parametric Simulation for Daylighting? - “Click Simulate Once”
