Michael Leung started the non-profit organization Hong Kong Honey Local to promote urban beekeeping on rooftops in Hong Kong. He collaborates with bee farmers in rural areas and organizes seminars and lectures to raise awareness about pollination and honey. Public & Collaborative Services: Case Study Hong Kong Honey Local http://www.hkhoney.org/ Description In an intense city Hong Kong, there is lack of green space for bees, while bees pollinated one- third of our foods. So Michael Leung, a product designer, started up this non-profit organization to do and experiment urban bee keeping on the rooftop of the buildings. He started with collaborating the bee farmers in the rural space and now spreading out to the public with promoting honey’s product (wax candle, honey) and organizing seminars and lectures to the schools. He also amplifies the project with other organizations/ brands to the celebrity’s level to raise awareness. Citizen Role They are designers, artists, teachers and students. Public Role Describe the involvement of public agencies in the service (if any). Degrees of Involvement Hong Kong Honey local requires people who can take responsibility to keep their beehives on their rooftop and take responsibilities of the day-by-day caring. Public & Collaborative Services: Case Study Service Diagram Enabling Systems The entire system is based on individual who is interested in beekeeping to take action on their rooftops or other empty space. They work individually and as a community at the same time to share experience and learn from each other about keeping bees. Their action is to raise awareness and to improve other urban citizens knowledge of environmental issues and the affection by the life cycle of other living species. Role of Digital Environment The digital environment is a promotional tool for the service, which gives a certain brand image on to the service, while it needs to attract people.
